jedion357 August 1, 2013 - 11:12am | I like the idea of multiple forms of tender in a frontier environment and an overarching interstellar credit standard that is probably based on the energy economy. Still I think the standard credit should have a credit voucher that can be transfered or used on some outpost planet. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tekrat04 August 2, 2013 - 9:44am | I would add plastic bills like the new Canadian and Australian currency. |
Jaxon August 4, 2013 - 8:06am | I think it would be a credit based system - i.e. like a credstick. In the UAE, the plan is to have the Residency Card to contain your immigration information and allow you to load csh into it - like a debit card or Eagle Cash. Between that, your local debit card and your local bank credit card...well there is getting to be no need for cash. |
rattraveller August 5, 2013 - 3:35pm | Your ID card is also supposed to be your credit card and allow you to use your money anywhere. However since the UPF is a Confederacy each of the member planets would have its own currency. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
thespiritcoyote August 12, 2013 - 8:06am | Depends entirely on the colony and economic needs of the local market(s).
Currency is merely; a method of barter decentralization, in the form of an accepted basis of value, on a medium of exchange that is currently backed by a market of recognized stability, in supply of commodities or services. The actual medium of exchange could literally be anything == such as; salt and seashells, or plastic chips and bit-coins. Credit is the promise of the future availability for a given value of currency or commodity not currently in possession and/or circulation.
The more complex and diverse the agreements of fair exchange in a society becomes, among individuals or organizations, the more the economic systems in use reflects the layers of exchange in similar complexity and diversity. Oh humans!! We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?". ~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
Malcadon August 16, 2013 - 12:14am | I tend to avoid cold-hard-cash in my games, as they tend to be problematic and the details about solid cash was not worth it. Most of the time, I have the players use their ID cards as a credit card, with plenty of places with card slots (I still like to keep the setting looking like something that looked impressive back in the 1970s and '80s - Farrah hair and all). Sometimes, when I want the tech have the feel of an iPod future, I have them use an ID microchip that can be placed in their can-do-everything smartwatch/chronocom. Transactions can be as simple as running your hand over a marked sales plaque or shaking someone's hand - you'll still have to confirm the transaction. |
Shadow Shack August 21, 2013 - 6:22pm | Duh... Hard plastick credit chits like poker chits used in Vegas |
