Hey started a thread to discuss the organization of a Virtual Con Here:
http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5629

but since that project has limited membership I'm sending this notice to pull more of you in, even if you just offer ideas and dont want to participate in organizing it.

If we can get some interest in it I think it would be a great activity for the 30th anniversary of Star Frontiers

Please stop by the Conventions project and discuss.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Personally, I think the 30th Anniversary text is fine the size it is.  I think I can rotate the ship a bit and put it in larger with a slightly different font.  I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Another idea... anyone paying and attending the Con can get this patch in their sf.us profile/avatar. Kinda like a status symbol.

@terl, I guess we won't know if the font/text is too small until it's printed and swen. Are you making this image 600dpi?

Okay, rotated the ship slightly and 30th Anniversary enlarged.  Two versions: old font and a new one that is still script but not as cursive.

enlarged new font
I like the ship rotation.  I still like the old font.  Unfortunately, that is a graphic.  I don't actually have that font.  I'm not sure about putting 30th Anniversary into the outer band.  I'm not sure how to arrange things and I actually like it how it is.

As long as we can agree on a concept, Bill can do his photoshop-fu and come up with the final. Great job terl!

Actually I do know what the font is for the original 30th Anniversary text and can reproduce it at any size.  So if we want to keep it we can.

Two final images.  In these ones I've cleaned up the text in the purple band to actually use a clean rendering of the font along the curve instead of having to rotate, space, and align each letter by hand.  I also redid the 30th Anniversary text using the actual font instead of a graphic so it is a little cleaner as well.  The first one is just the pure, sharp fonts.  The second one has the edges softened slightly.

Personally, I think I like the 30th Anniversary sharp and the text in the purple band softened.

Okay, I had one last thought and had to do one more.  The groups of stars represent the core four races of the Frontier, the three native races of the Rim and the Sathar.  I also did this one with the softened outer text and the crisp inner text.

the light blue looks awsome.  try dropping one of the colors from the horizon.  it looks a lot like a rainbow right now.

Perhaps the red, the blue compliments the border, and the gold/yellow represents the light.

Online: sf.us chat, IRC server.
In addition you'll need a browser with java enabled.
We are working out the technical details in the coming weeks, but that's it in a nutshell.
Be prepared to sit in front of the laptop for 3-4 hours. I've played online game and its not like your glued to the screen, its actually relaxing... at least when SS ran games online.

/me sings, "Where O where did Shadow Shack go. O where, O where could he be? He used to run an online game, he used to run an online game from here to Golly Wog Three!"
/the audience, "It's Gollywog you frag hole!"

Per Jedi's suggestion here is the simplifed (patch version) logo without the red part of the band.
simplified patch without the red band.

Related to Inigo's question, I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of the sessions would want Skype and a virtual table top program like OpenRPG or MapTools.

We have to wait, while w00t's wife is away for 3 weeks (and poor w00t is stuck playing single parent); till she gets back to see if she can do this patch on her equipment.

I'm all for what ever she says is her cost plus the cost of a stamp being the convention registration fee. I cant see the final result being all that much.

And, just for reference, ordering them on line (at least for sources I found) would cost about $1.50 to $4.00 a patch depending on how many we ordered.  That's assuming we did a 3" patch.

I would order one online as a test to check quality, word size, colors, etc. Next, find a place that makes ghost buster style jumper suits. Well take over Gen Con.

You get the jumpsuit and I'll get the Royal Marine bomber jacket.

I agree.  At least one of the sites I found does do test samples so you can tweak things if necessary.  The also have about the best prices.  My earlier quote was a little low.  for 100% embroidered patches, it is about $150 for 25 ($6.00 each) and about $190 for 100 ($1.90 each).  For less than 100% embroidered, it is $137 for 25 and $150 for 100 at that same site.

We could get away with less than 100% embroidered if we wanted to.  I'd make the "space" portion of the patch the unembroidered section.  That would give the Assault Scout, stars, sunrise, and planet a 3-D raised effect inside the outer ring that would put them in the foreground above the "background" of deep space.

The down side then is someone has to order and pay for with their own money a lot of patches and could end up sitting on stock. One reason that I'd like to see what Larry's wife would charge us as I suspect that she wont mind stitching on demand.

My geek meter is alerting but I'd also pay for a nice Streel or PGC patch based on the artwork for the company logos in Zebs. Then what would be really killer is a ships crest/ patch for the Serena Dawn. With the ships name and the word crew on the outer rim of the patch.

I was thinking the same. Ships are always hiring crew, most would have extra suits for each race. I suspect rf id tags would allowing encode of your current ship assignment.
