jedion357 September 1, 2011 - 2:03pm | Hey started a thread to discuss the organization of a Virtual Con Here: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5629 but since that project has limited membership I'm sending this notice to pull more of you in, even if you just offer ideas and dont want to participate in organizing it. If we can get some interest in it I think it would be a great activity for the 30th anniversary of Star Frontiers Please stop by the Conventions project and discuss. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 6:35am | I'm seeing a twelve person positives response to th idea of a virtual con held over the internet so i'm guessing its a go. Tentatively looking for a weekend in March. Will require a nominal fee to register and entrants will get something as a memento to commemorate the event. The nominal fee should keep "ass hats" from interfering. Looking into the possibility of a patch and or a miniature- in particular on of spider's new miniatures. Though I think it will be only the first 12place that register get the miniature. Any extra money left over can be donated to a charity or donated to the SFman to pay foe artwork. Con will be focused on online game sessions, scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings Saturday earlier in the say could have a scheduled event as well as events on Sunday but other people besides me will need to step up and run those. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 6:38am | Need a logo for the event that could, if need be work as a patch. Ideas? Volunteer artist? Side question what does everyone consider the limit for a nominal fee? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) September 23, 2011 - 9:15am | What imagary do you want in a logo?
$5.00 Fee Extra cash can go into the 30th Anniversary Module or SFman. I'll commit to either running a game or hanging out in chat to answer questions. (I imagine we'll have lots of ppl in chat during the con). |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 9:37am | At most and depending on response I can see 1to2 sessions running at the same time Friday night. 1 to 2 running the same time early Saturday and again the same thing Saturday evening, then on Sunday afternoon possibly 1to2 sessions. I believe I can be available for 3sessions though Sunday might be pushing it. Though if possible 4 four consecutive sessions would allow for a big story to be told. So if we get 3-4referees we should be good and I don't think we'll need that many. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 9:39am | As for logo im open to ideas what should a logo for a virtual con held on the 30th anniversary of the game show? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 10:39am | Something like this would be cool: Just replace the shuttle with an Assault Scout and changes the words on the bottom to Star Frontiers and the dates to 1982 & 2012. Maybe make the outer band purple instead of blue as a nod to the old boxed sets. The actual patch looks like this: Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 12:05pm | I like that with the proposed assualt scout swap. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 12:13pm | I could redo the years in the SF font as well but didn't for the concept image. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 12:26pm | Only thing, now that I think about it, is that a now standard shape can carry more cost, need to check with the company. Another thing is that the patch could be done 2 ways 1). is that the black is canvas and not stitched thread and 2.) is that the entire patch is covered in stitched thread including the black I propably dont need to tell you which one looks better and which one costs more. Personally I'd like the see the assault scout flipped over so that its diving down across the patch and it looks like we're looking down on it instead of looking at its belly. I know that there is really no up and down in space but since most of us are earth bound we tend to think in terms of up and down and most humans perfer to look at the top of something rather than the underside- its really a subconscious thing. Terl can you do a circle patch with the assualt scout flipped and entirley within the circle. and I'll get some prices on non standard and standard shaped patches as well as full stitched and partial stitched prices. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 12:32pm | You mean like this: I'd probably redo the planet and starburst portion as well for a final version. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
w00t (not verified) September 23, 2011 - 12:43pm | Nice terl. Let's not totally pawn nasa. :-) What if the AS was inside the rounded patch? I see you are keeping the Alpha Dawn colors. Cool. |
w00t (not verified) September 23, 2011 - 12:44pm | I believe I have the equipment to make patches, fyi. |
jedion357 September 23, 2011 - 12:49pm | Seriously, Larry, you can make patches? whats your cost to do so? RE: AD colors: Only a Real Frontiersman can handle wearing Alpha Dawn Pink BTW Tom, I like the latest patch the best but what does everyone else think? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 1:01pm | I'll tweak it a bit more in the coming days. I'll probably do at least the following: 1) Change the font (and possibly postion of the numbers) 2) Deepen the purple of the outer ring 3) rework the sunrise and planet in the bottom slightly. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
w00t (not verified) September 23, 2011 - 1:42pm | Can you use the re-mastered colors? Not sure if I like pink. Or perhaps the Alpha Dawn blue cover? |
Ascent September 23, 2011 - 5:15pm | That's fantastic. Any way you could get the ship's nose to stick out of the ring? View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. Inigo Montoya September 23, 2011 - 7:44pm | The patch looks really cool. Though I'd like mine to say "Chief Ass Hat", I can see how we wouldn't want a full run of that. Not that I want to be spending more money than I need to, but is $5 going to be nearly enough? I will definately play Friday and Saturday. I have to work Sunday though. How long do you suspect each session to run? |
Ascent September 23, 2011 - 8:22pm | I guess it doesn't matter to me. I can't even pay by digital means (I can't have a bank account or credit card, and I can't afford $5 for the MoneyPak), let alone afford $5 or more. Ascent September 23, 2011 - 8:32pm | Terl, could you make it stick out less from the ring? Like just the nose over the ring, but not outside of the ring. I also like the down-angle of the second one more. I'd say that's a very manly purplish-pink. View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 10:25pm | Three more samples. On all of them, I:
I think I like the last one the best. If you want to see an even bluer one I can do that. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
TerlObar September 23, 2011 - 11:16pm | One more just for fun. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
iggy September 24, 2011 - 1:25am | i like the last one "extra" best. -iggy |
jedion357 September 24, 2011 - 5:25am | oooh- I like that too perhaps as the cover logo but the older one will be needed for the patch. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar September 24, 2011 - 7:52am | Yeah. The last one is too detailed for the patch. I'm going to see if I can reduce the color pallet and simplify it so it can be used for the patch as well. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
iggy September 24, 2011 - 8:40am | what about putting star frontiers on top and the years on the bottom. that way they could both be centered. i'd like to see the result to see if i like it better than the version with star frontiers offset to the left. if the price is reasonable i'll go to the con just for the patch and do some late night chat even if my schedule fills my days preventing game participation. -iggy |
TerlObar September 24, 2011 - 10:42am | Good idea. I'll try that. Although working with the text on the curved surface is a bit of a pain since I can't seem to figure out how to do text along a curved path and have to do each letter individually. I'll try to get it up later today. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
TerlObar September 24, 2011 - 1:36pm | Per iggy's suggestion I've moved Star Frontiers to the top and the dates to the bottom. I've also cleaned up the outer ring. This image represents the full color and detail version that can be used for logos. If we like it, I'll start working on a simplified version to make into a patch. What is the maximum number of thread colors? It needs at least 6 but would probably be beter with 8 or more colors. Ad Astra Per Ardua! w00t (not verified) September 24, 2011 - 4:00pm | The planet and sun could simply be black and white, I believe you'll get the same effect. Do we think 30th Anniversary is large enough? My Volturnus Expedition hat images were a little smallish, they appear as blobs on the hat, I believe that's because they were two small of an image. Oh you don't have a Volturnus Expedition hat? :-P |
Ascent September 24, 2011 - 4:38pm | If you rotated the angle of the ship a little closer to horizontal, you could increase the size of the anniversary text. You might try also putting "Anniversary" above "30th". A different font might also show up better. Orange for the planet and sun would preserve the style more, I think. VI: Return of the Jedi "That guy's wise." —Logray, Star Wars Ep.VI: Return of the Jedi Do You Wanna Date My Avatar? - Felicia Day (The Guild) |
jedion357 September 24, 2011 - 5:31pm | could also put 30th A in the outer ring with Star Frontiers and the Dates leaving the inner circle for the art. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
