Honestly, I think the shark was jumped BEFORE they started filming the first one.

The problem with Sharknado is how it was an attempt to be a cult classic like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.

Actually I take that back, the problem is they didn't allow the movie to become a cult classic on its own, instead they forced more and more of it down the market's throat.

It amazes me that they continue to have financing for the franchise. Though I like how the TV spots poke fun of it when it's listing all the actors they got for this one and the they say, "and basically anyone who said yes".  LOL
Sharknado has become a perfect storm in the entertainment industry. It's clearly a light hearted "fun" franchise that no one took seriously and most enjoyed making fun of and now now C & D list actors who have nothing better to do and could use the pay check are lining up to get in on the "fun". I don't think we've seen the end of the 'nado

Edit: my daughters love Jaws (which we actually call "we're going to need a bigger boat") and we just went to see The Shallows which they also thought was very good though it scared them. If I showed up with a "new shark movie" and sprung Sharknado on them it would be interesting to watch their reaction; I'd especially look forward to the youngest's comments on it.

The answer to why Sharknado still exists is as Inspector Brackenreid always says "Follow the money".

It is the same reason we now have Ice Age 5 and a Ghostbusters reboot.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Well, I finally saw Sharknado all the way through, The Second One and Oh Hell No!

Funny in a blood and guts, not quite Three Stooges kind of way. My wife and I managed to guess some of the zingers before they appeared on screen. It's definitely not high art.

I'll have to try to catch the Fourth Awakens on the "Free Movies" side of Comcast before it expires... no big hurry to do that.

I did see the Sy Fy -- definitely not science fiction -- channel has a lava tarantula movie next week... Kind of like the magma monsters from Volturnus with legs and can move faster.

Maybe a Sand Shark dust storm is just the thing to have...

I tried to watch Sharknado but only lasted 20 min. I did  like the George from Cheers barfly character when picked up his barstool and took it with him when they had to evacuate the waterfront bar- awesome. Then he used it to bash a shark because when you want to put down a shark what you really want is a bar stool.

Well I love bad films, they are just misunderstood films... lol. I do need to see 4 myself. I think Jaws one was great, Jaws 2 so so and three was a real stinker... I remember I saw it in 3-D and was not impressed at the time.

It seems the Sci-fi channel gets cgi of giant creatures and then make whole bunch along those lines. I just got done watch their version of The Land Time Forgot,

Did anyone besides me catch the film Monsters the one with alien life on Earth and how it has changed everything.  With the Contamination areas and the alien life forms migrating and so on. I liked it. I think it was not Sci-fi channel. The one show I wished Sci-fi channel had made for TV was Mercury Men, the cable episodes where great real classic black and white style sci-fi. (You can watch it now on Youtube)

Wow, they are going back to the same well for water again! Sharknado 5, Gobal Swarming which is some how connected to ancient Egypt, and I still haven't sat through movies 1,2,3 or 4! What's the world coming too?

OMG, can I claw my eyes out???

I just caught 5 minutes of the latest sharknado and Fabio played the Pope and gave the main character dude a holy chainsaw to slay sharks with and save the world.

I'm, I'm, I'm.... I dont know what to say. Its the worst crap I've ever seen on TV talk about bad acting and writing. It was like a worst version of a 80's straight to video action flick trying to emmulate something actually half way successful except in this case I dont then they were emmulating anything.

Anything that forces Fabio to dust off his wrinkles can't be worth seeing. Seriously, with all the cosmetic surgery he's had --- every time he sits down his mouth opens --- how is it possible to even have wrinkles?!?

A local radio station airs this little pick me up "Remember, somebody once said in a meeting 'Let's make a movie about a tornado full of sharks,' "

Put that way it does make a lot of ideas seem less stupid.

If the number of Sharknado movies ever exceeds the number of Firefly episodes, it will only prove that there really is something wrong with the world.

P.S.    We're past the 1/3 mark in that regard...

Firefly is a whole other discussion. People tend to forget that Firefly, Angel and Buffy were all cancelled at the same time. Angel got some warning but still had to end its final story arc long before it was supposed to.

Always made me wonder who Joss Whedon hacked off to have that happen.

That didn't escape me, although when it was being aired Angel was the only series I was able to catch (I picked up Firefly on DVD later on and never had any desire for Buffy).

Somewhere along the way he must have done something right, Avengers was by far one of the best flicks ever made.

Just a thought.  If Joss had been making more Firefly, Buffy, and Angel he may haave been too busy or missed the opportunity to get into the Marvel franchise.  I don't know anything, just speculating.

I  do wish there was more Firefly.

Buffy, Angel and Firefly ended in 2003. Avengers came out in 2012. Think the first two would have ended by then as they were reaching the end of plausible storylines. Maybe Firefly would still have been around (we all hoped) but then again Supernatural is going into its 13th season so who can say.

Meanwhile the 29th consecutive season of The Simpsons kicks off this fall. That's simply amazing how an animated ½-hour series can possess such longevity.

My guess is return on investment has a big part in keeping The Simpson's going.  The cost of animation has likely been improved with custom Simpson's animation software.  The cost of voice actors is less than live actors.  The episode length is efficient.  The resulting advertising and syndication revenue makes the ROI high enough that the investors are gonna keep the cash cow milking as long as she can produce.
