Live Play (OpenRPG)

I'm really itching for some live play SF (D&D with the wife is fine, but she is no longer a fan of SF and I'm really jonesing).

I participated in some live D&D via OpenRPG but I have no idea how to host such a game. I've done several trial solo runs but just can't seem to figure out how to open a room (and keep it open) let alone load maps.

Anyone know anything about that?
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Yes version 1.8.whatever is the current version.  I hadn't upgraded when I wrote that.  Yes pregenerate a basic AD character to use.  I'll try to post a link to the OpenRPG characters sheet that you can upload tomorrow or Wednesday (most likely Wednesday).

Okay, I think I posted it before but here it is again.  This is the Star Frontiers Character Sheet for OpenRPG I created.  To use it do the following:
  1. Download that file to your disk
  2. Start up OpenRPG
  3. Right click in the Game Tree and select "Insert File".
  4. Select the SF_char_sheet.xml file where ever you saved it
  5. Double click on the 'SF Character Sheet' item that appears
This will open up a blank character sheet that you can fill out for your character.  If you right click on the 'SF Character Sheet' item and select 'Design' from the menu (or just click on it two times slowly), you can rename the node to be the name of your character.  When we start on Friday I'll have you all send me copies of your character within OpenRPG so I can refer to them as needed.

Star Frontiers via OpenRPG?  About 3 or 4 years ago, I developed a number of add-ins to run Star Frontiers in OpenRPG, which included the original counters, maps, and built in reference sheets for OpenRPG.  I think I even made it so that the die roller would automatically calculate a skill check by pulling the numbers straight from a player's character sheet.

Never really found too many people to play live sessions back then as the SF community was far too enamored with play-by-post, (which I sincerely aborred, btw).  Anyway, if these extensions still work in the new versions of OpenRPG, I 've made a file for anyone interested which contains all the old resources for you to use, modify, or expand as you see fit -

I'll try to keep the front page of the site update. /me thinks we'll need a Calendar!

@Tom, I realized last night this might present a problem if a Player needs to GM the session that he is playing in.

I agree.  I think we may just have to have multiple campaigns going each under the auspicies of a different Ref, with the campaigns being structured so that players can join and drop out easily if needed.  (That's the goal of my MercCo campaign, small missions that will fit in a session or two.)  The calendar would show the Ref/campaign going on that night and people would show up to play.

Another option would be to have two (or more) Refs collaborate on a single campaign so that one can cover when the other can't make it.  If the are both there, one Ref will run the story line and the other can play some of the NPC's. Or they could have a NPC as part of the party that the second Ref plays when both are present but they are not acutally running the show.

My thought; A few adventures that could easily be picked up by any of The Ref's. At least that's what I'm working on. A project (or site, or email, or PDF) shared by The Ref's with an outline, NPC stats and whatnot.

I like this sort of a source book that all the GMs work from and we can all maintain a PC who is an operative of the parent organization (Merco)
each adventure is worth 1-3 exp?
baseline on equipment: only AD?
if it goes long enough will KH skills be considered?
Each GM writes their own adventure?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

That sounds about right to me.  I figured we'd start just AD and then expand as necessary.

Yeah, we played Friday night for about 3 hours figuring things out.  You can still join in, the adventure is about half over and we can just say any additional PC's were along but intactive.  There was room for four more bodies in the vehicles used.  I'll post a short writeup (longer than the one w00t posted) sometime this week.

Yeah, I flaked it too. For me I have to develop the habit, so I'll keep trying until I remember. I'll try again this Friday.

I most likely cannot ref this Friday.  Turns out I needed to be back in UT instead of CA as I planned and may get roped into refereeing volleyball games for my wife.  And even if I'm not refereeing volleyball, I'll have Dad DutyTM so couldn't ref either.
