TerlObar November 4, 2009 - 3:53pm | Okay, here is the inital campaign background for the game this Friday. I'll post the exact scenario background later tonight (I just need to work out a couple of details).
The PCs are a mercenary squad for MercCo. They form a "peer" squad, no official leader (external or internal) assigned but rather have a self organized command structure. I’m building this as the beginning of a full campaign. Given the goals of this format, I’ll try to shoot for a series of small encounters that can be played out in one or two sessions and if a player can’t be there, their character will just sit that one out. Everyone should generate a beginning AD character. Pick a PSA and two skills and 250+1d100 credits to buy equipment. You will also receive equipment based on your missions. Character’s pay will be based on skills (basically the amount listed in the AD rules minus “cost of living” expenses deducted by MercCo since they provide room and board, transportation to mission and supplies). Let me know if you are going to play so I can scale encounters appropriately (right now I know of Ascent, w00t, Omgha and umungus). Also, let me know if you have Skype and your Skype name (mine is dagorym). If everyone has it we'll give it a try. I'll post the OpenRPG character sheet later tonight as well. When we start, I'll have everyone send me a copy of their character. Ad Astra Per Ardua! TerlObar November 4, 2009 - 8:38pm | Episode 1 Your squad has been contracted out to perform escort duty for a mid-level manager of Trident Inc., a local mining and manufacturing company on Lossend. He is performing an on-site inspection and checkout of the facility and apparently the travel route from the corporate warehouses out to the mining and processing facility has been plagued by raiders over the last few months. You’ve been assigned to escort the manager and some additional staff out to the facility and the manager and a cargo shipment back. It should be a simple assignment, ride shotgun on the trip out, hang out at the facility for a couple of days while the inspection occurs and then ride shotgun for the cargo delivery on the way back. For this assignment you can draw (if needed) from MercCo supplies:

Georgie November 5, 2009 - 8:50pm | I'm in. Skype Georgie_52302 Character: Jack Ovel-Drades, Human Background: Jack is fresh out of trade school where he studied Life Support Systems Design (PSA Biosocial - Environmental, with secondary Tech skills). Unfortunately, no one was hiring green horn LS techs, so he signed on with MercCo. He expects the job to be basic security, you know, wear the uniform, sit at the front desk and have visitors sign the book. He's still young and naive enough to not realize that Mega-Corps don't give a hang what its employees expect. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

TerlObar November 6, 2009 - 6:32pm | We'll be on the Roleplay Refugees server in the Str Frontiers room. I'll also be on chat here until we get started. Ad Astra Per Ardua! SDon7x November 7, 2009 - 9:23am | I might be interested in this. Can you tell me when your next session might be, and, importantly, how frequently you plan to host live sessions? |
w00t (not verified) November 7, 2009 - 1:09pm | The overall goal is to have a GM available every Friday at 9pm EST and make pre-made adventure so their easy to run online. I'll try to keep the front page of the site update. /me thinks we'll need a Calendar! @Tom, I realized last night this might present a problem if a Player needs to GM the session that he is playing in. |
w00t (not verified) November 7, 2009 - 1:53pm | Jack the human, Tang the vrusk and Grok the yazirian were hired by MercCo to escort some sniggity-wigs through the mountains. On the way we spotted very very large land herbivores and some burned out vehicles. We then drove through a forest and finally to the destination - a mining base cut from the mountain side. Highlight of the trip - Tang, "At least I got to scare a rabbit alien thingy." No yazirian's were harmed during the filming of this episode. |
Georgie November 7, 2009 - 2:57pm | I'd like to emphasize most of us were learning how to use the software... well, at least I was learning the software, so we didn't get as far in roughly three hours of play as we might have at table-top play. Overall, it was extremely enjoyable and I plan to attend as often as I am able. Heck, I might even Ref a game if Terl can't continue or needs play time. The weak can never forgive. Oghma November 8, 2009 - 4:37pm | Sorry I missed you guys. I completely forgot that you were getting started on Friday. |
Ascent November 8, 2009 - 11:14pm | This sounds like a great story. I really do want to be a part of it this Friday. I'll try to stay on Twitter for the reminder. w00t (not verified) November 8, 2009 - 11:31pm | This sounds like a great story. I really do want to be a part of it this Friday. I'll try to stay on Twitter for the reminder. I think one of the items I'll put on the "Frontier Master List" is for the GM to send email on wed/thur as a reminder. That is the only source I know everyone is using. We want to draw a crowd outside sf.us. |
Lubidius November 12, 2009 - 11:39am | Do you all use openrpg for a desktop? or do you just do straight up Skype voice comms and just use another method to get information posted to the player group? I'd be interested in lurking at least for a couple sessions; just to see how it all works. |
w00t (not verified) November 12, 2009 - 1:56pm | Download openRPG software that runs on your desktop. This interface is used to connect and play. http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg&m=getorpg Skype is used to speed up the game (most can talk faster than type). Hope to see you there! |

Georgie November 14, 2009 - 6:43pm | How's about I just tells ya here. I was the only one there. Umungus attempted to join, but could not connect to the server (couldn't ping it either, which is weird since his connectivity to everything else was fine). So he and I had a nice Skype chat and badmouthed the rest of ya! Ok, just kidding about the "badmouthing" part. ... Maybe. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

umungus November 14, 2009 - 10:25pm | Yeh! What Georgie said. It was cool to give Skype a try. I am disturbed that OpenRPG would'nt hook up. I am willing to run a game too. But I gotta get the log in issue hashed out. At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
umungus November 14, 2009 - 10:33pm | Well I was able to log on to the roleplay refugees server, but now I cant see the SF game in the rooms. Am I missing something? At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
umungus November 14, 2009 - 10:33pm | Well I was able to log on to the roleplay refugees server, but now I cant see the SF game in the rooms. Am I missing something? At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
Georgie November 15, 2009 - 8:28pm | The room isn't permanent. Typically the Ref for the night should create it. You will see a 'Create Room' bottom and text box to enter the room's name below the list of current rooms. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

Lubidius November 16, 2009 - 9:59am | I understand most of the above connection methods, but what is the "Roleplay Refugees" server. Hopefully I can "lurk" this Friday if you all partake again. |
umungus November 16, 2009 - 1:33pm | So, I should be good to go when the room is back up? At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
Georgie November 16, 2009 - 4:49pm | I won't guarantee nuthin', but you should be. ;) So, I should be good to go when the room is back up? It's one of the dozen or so servers you'll see when you select "browse servers" from the menu. Each server hosts a Lobby and several game rooms. I understand most of the above connection methods, but what is the "Roleplay Refugees" server. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

umungus November 20, 2009 - 4:02pm | So, is a game happening tonight? At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
Georgie November 20, 2009 - 6:59pm | Judging from who is currently online at 7:58 CT, I would guess 'no'. :/ The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of
