jedion357 August 24, 2016 - 7:12am | Bear with me and to be sure this will be a very unusual campaign beyond the borders of the Frontier. The sessu look like the sathar so they are the obvious choice for spies to penetrate sathar society. They are completely amoral and pretty much sociopaths, caring only for themselves. So one sessu spy penetrated deep into sathar society and was chosen for whatever reason for the brain tubing program. He now runs a sathar star ship. It's thought that this spy was captured or killed as he has not reported back in a decade. He's kept his eye stalks low and bided his time looking for an opportunity to escape the service of the sathar. PCs have been on a mission deep behind enemy lines and their ship has been destroyed. Just when they think they have no options but to go Alamo the sessu/ship contacts them and gives them an out. They are now flying around on a sathar ship which for the most part is run by a tubed sathar brain and are light years from the Frontier. They have a myriad of challenges not the least of which is that UPF forces will shoot the ship on sight. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 24, 2016 - 7:15am | The mission to take the ship will involve the sessu talking to the PCs and telling them where all the enemy sathar are. Such that they get "an eye in the sky" to purge the ship of opposition. This might be more manageable with a smaller ship like the sathar cutter. We already have deck plans for a destroyer so perhaps go with that. PCs don't even need KHs skills but should be at least mid level AD characters. Campaign outline: 1. Sneak/fight free of sathar space 2. Explore some planets/ systems acquiring supplies 3. Negotiate and pass through Tortuga and the pirate clans (opportunity to trade for stuff off the regular equipment list). 4. Return to UPF with critical information they've acquired along way. (SW2 has already happened or is about to happen as per your preferences). I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 24, 2016 - 7:29am | Or PCs are captured UPF citizens brought aboard the sessu tube brain ship for transfer to a facility in system X. This is the best opportunity the sessu brain has had in a decade. He frees the PCs and guides them thru taking the ship. Note: this is the SF version of "you meet on a slave galley" PCs can be any level including the classic choose 2 skills and see if you live long enough to learn more. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

A neat idea! I am an idea whore. I steal ideas from everywhere and figure out how to apply them to Star Frontiers. Not everything sticks to the wall but I do throw a lot of mud. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Putraack August 26, 2016 - 5:14am | I like it. Challenge magazine had a campaign for 2300AD ("Three Musketeers", I think?) that I thought would be really cool, and perhaps adaptable to Star Frontiers. The PCs are given 1-3 stealthy, fast, lightly armed ships and given carte blanche to explore Kaefer (Sathar) space. Where are they coming from? How many worlds do they have? Are there factions to exploit, and so on? In my head this is getting mixed up with AD&D's "Vault of the drow", in that there are factions at each others' throats, slaves, mind-controlling aliens with tentacles. That would make a long campaign, perhaps. |
jedion357 September 2, 2016 - 6:37am | Almost a Star Trek Voyager in some respects. What we need is a decent set of deck plans for a KHs style frigate, cruiser or carrier such that referees wishing to run a big ship campaign can. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
