This was used prominently in the movie The Martian. Actually it's nominally in the movie but prominent in the book.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I've had it suggested to me that these are what the portable Power Generators in Canon may actually be.  Not sure I believe that though.
