Tchklinxa May 5, 2015 - 5:02am | Ever play the bad guys? I have a few times it can be fun or boring depending on the game: I was watching a ST movie (Undiscovered Country) and thinking about a ST book written solely from the bad guys point of view (Final Reflection): It occurred to me it would be a real weird set of circumstances of course, but what if some poor Sathar Captain & ship had the job of entering UPF space, with an unarmed ship go to Prenglar, get the UPF ambassador, return to Sathar space, keep ambassador alive & not mentally messed with, and make to Sathar world where they have ambassadors... and everyone wants to blow up his ship, assassinate the envoy, to prevent any chance peace ever. He has crew trying to kill the guy, trying to cause problems when in UPF space, factions private and rogue in both governments gunning for them. The Ambassador would have to be immune to hypnosis of course, but maybe someone wants to scramble the guy's brain another way. Just tossing out a what if story, in which the Sathar are the PCs. It is an interesting idea to think of the UPF as the bad guys... I am of the opinion the Sathar feel their territory has been violated by the UPF races... Could be a hoot people playing sathar, trying to hypnotize others, trying to stop the invasive UPF and so on. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |

Each PC has a chance to resist their initial hypnotism and if they do they are "faking" it that they are agents. Can they confide in another player? if that player's PC is a real agent he can turn them in for EXP bonus and they get locked in a cell till they succumb to hypnotism. There would be a chance for them to eventually break the control of their sathar controller. and how do they then return to the frontier? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 8, 2015 - 5:46pm | That could be fun, reminds me of Resistance in concept "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 8, 2015 - 5:52pm | I think you have to give the PCs a ship for either idea. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 8, 2015 - 5:56pm | Oh I am sure... but it would be a hoot "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 February 20, 2019 - 8:32pm | Shades of Paranoia RPG where one might summarily execute another PC labeling them a mutant commie traitor. In this case the Nemo like "captain" could be a tube brain and is the replacement for the Paranoia "Computer" The computer ie tubed sathar brain can compute void jumps at the rate of 1 hour per light year in violation of the rules but simply a quirk of this particular brain. do the PCs off the brain or keep it around to benefit from its computational ability? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
