Tchklinxa May 11, 2015 - 11:57am | Okay we have 2 "Sathar" races, 1 which has been bopping around the galaxy for a while now... so it stands to reason (besides black obelisks) there would be other evidence of them: Abandoned Mines Fields of semi-precious/precious and worthless stones that when analyzed indicate they do not come from that planet (Sathar dead gizzard stones). Sathar Pompeii: when cement poured into holes in lava field over a buried city. Sathar shaped emerge. Pottery images, cave art by native primitives? Myths, legends, folklore? "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 15, 2015 - 4:18pm | abandoned sathar world or clan wiped out by other clans. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 15, 2015 - 7:22pm | Or remember our innocent Dino buddies on Volturnus... what if they got their knowledge from the Sathar prior to the Sathar becoming the badies, what if something happened to the Sathar colony on Volturnus... Agriculture: the spread of plants & animals specific to the Sathar would be another "foot print" of the culture. I don't just mean the ones meant to cause non-Sathar problems, I am talking things the Sathar would eat, raise, and appreciate for various reasons out side of just war tactics. Caves with entrances under water that show habitation, ceremonial use, etc that can only be reached by diving under the waters/murk that then have vast networks of breathable air passages, chambers, pools and so on. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa May 15, 2015 - 7:46pm | Caves under water & culture: How did ancient Maya artifacts get deep in underwater caves in RL can maybe be used to create similar mysteries in SF "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 17, 2015 - 4:36am | or cave divers exploring a cave on an established colony discover sathar artifacts? It would spark a star law investigation for sure. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 17, 2015 - 11:13am | Yep it sure would... Clarion would seem like a perfect wormy environ would it not? "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa May 17, 2015 - 11:24am | Invertebrates do occur in the fossil record, so in theory one could find fossilized remains of Sathar. A link to worm fossils: http://skywalker.cochise.edu/wellerr/fossil/worm/wormL. Also we should consider things like mummified natural or purposeful Sathar bodies: There are several ways preservation could probably occur. Or the shadows caused by a nuclear blast. Cave Art, pottery art, textile arts expressing myth & legend of an intelligent native species could indicate Sathar presence as well, or any mysterious ancient space faring race. What if a culture makes Sathar masks and uses them in rituals for instance. We really have no idea cannon wise how long the Sathar have been in space. We just know 20,000 years ago some got dropped off on a planet by somebody. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 18, 2015 - 3:48am | I watched your video on mayan artifacts and started this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQSjPBMGKS0 This one caught my eye because of the mystery in the beginning of dripping slime from the cave roof- which immediately makes you go to sathar. This cave was an exceedingly hostile environment with the gas meters warning of leathal carbon monoxide. So the point of this documentary is that you get the cave formation as part of the life process of an organism. This creates an interesting idea of a symbiosis between an organism and geology to create the cave. EDIT: if you get into sathar archeaology and ancient sathar sites then you could also present things like the proto-quick death a quick death that does not exhibit all of the extreme bio-engineering of the modern quickdeath. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 18, 2015 - 10:47am | OMG this type of cave would be perfect... for a good old fashion dangerous Sci-fi based dungeon crawl with mystery, alien creatures, sathar artifacts and more... love the caustic acid slime. The Caves of Laccos? It needs to be a dry environ, though Volturnus has potential or a new world... there has to be a reason the PCs go caving, something must entice them... but I think a whole living world underground would be good. There was a book that "evolved" life forms like bats into land mammals after something happened on Earth. I doubt I have that book anymore, kids enjoyed it a bit to much. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 18, 2015 - 10:56am | Could just as easily be Prengular with a large hidden cave system. Starmist too. Most any planet, really. On Laco the added mystery is why does this cave have 100% humidity? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 18, 2015 - 5:30pm | Maybe the PCs get hired to babysit the scientists: really annoying NPCs, who when not treating the PCs like poo are arguing with each other-egos lightyears tall: (maybe dangerous critter concerns) first start exploring what seems to be normal, until finding artifacts, sealed doors to chambers.... the high humidity, water, poison gasses, bizarre life forms, acid slimes and of course there has to be a reason they keep going deeper until they get in trouble and can not go back the way they came, the dark life awaits... "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 May 18, 2015 - 6:58pm | Make sure the biggest pain of an NPC is the first to be eaten once the players express their irritation at him, they'll love that. Or you could keep him around to be the 3rd or 4th eaten so he can go on being a pain. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 20, 2019 - 8:25pm | Another sathar archaeology idea: I've had this idea before - moon with ice or cryo-volcano (as seen in our solar system)- ship has landed "down wind" from a cryo-volcano and over time was covered in ice. Although i was resistant to using a sathar scout ship as that would feel too much like the Beyond the Frontier Campaign. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
