jedion357 October 9, 2014 - 6:03am | I start these threads to elicit ideas, content, submissions and feedback in part of the magazines but also in part because the collaborative process makes stuff better. I'd like to explore the 2nd Common Muster which is in essence SW1. Fiction, adventures, plot hooks, campaign overview, KH encounters, technical articles (how to handle sathar hypnotism, prospective equipment list for the era, etc) I think it could turn into a themed issue for the magazines but of course it will need content and feed back. What would you like to see in terms of a 2nd Common Muster theme in the fan zines? Fiction wise I think a short story exploring the sathar hypnotism from the perspective of a victim with a surprise/ twist ending would be cool. Adventure wise: I'd be interested in a small ship brought into the muster (not an assault scout) and experiencing some pieces of the war we have not seen possibly action on Laco or Pale or New Pale. mix of KHs and AD action for this designed as episodic encounters like WoWL module. Benefit is that the crew ie the PCs are not from a military organization and thus they dont have to act like it but they also get some straight forward action encoutners. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 24, 2016 - 7:49am | @ JCab747 I like where you went with Device and Laco. I definitely could write a campaign for PCs who "you meet as refugees on Laco" and by the way the sathar are landing. Equally interesting might be a campaign where the PCs are crew for a Captain Nemo like character called Zebulon Sectite. He will cut a deal with the CDC that leaves the PCs out in the cold. The campaign can build to a betrayal in Zebulon system or Truane's Star. When the PCs confront old Zeb he offers to tell them a secret about Volturnus and since the government of Pale is looking for Volunteers for a second survey expedition they being experience explorers could volunteer and while there cash in. What they don't know is that Zeb has played everyone and sold info to PGC, the Star Devil, government of Pale, CDC etc. PCs of course will walk into a pirate trap. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

I'm planning to work up a story called "Meet the Zebulons" to look at Alorne Zebulon and his cousin Sectite Zebulon, their early partnership and later bitter rivalry and who found the route to the Zebulon star system. You can get hints of that in my yet-to-be completed system brief for New Streel. But, instead of introducing the PCs to "old Zeb" you could bring out one of Shadow Shack's characters -- the Yazarian Yan-Soon Shea-Dow (also seen in Star Frontiersman #14). I've read Shadow's alternative history and the character's background... we'll assume that's a parallel universe... but if Yan-Soon Shea-Dow was a "friend" of Colonel Jameson. Instead of mustering out of the TS militia, he could also be a colonel or a lieutenant colonel and be one of the betrayers of the Truane's Star exploration efforts. When the PCs discover the information that a number of TS officials were on the take for the Star Devil, Shea-Dow escapes to lead his anti-UPF organization... one that he was already secretly building. jedion357 August 24, 2016 - 4:19pm | The rivalry between the Zebulon's could be that one is owner of the vessel while the other is Captain/pilot. Both feel they are entitled to monies from exploration discoveries. If ship was not an exploration vessel then distribution of monies for exploration would not have been detailed. So the owner of the vessel feels that since he pays everyone a wage and bears all the risk he deserves to reap the profits. The ship while not a scout ship did go on to perform duties as a scout ship for the 1st & 2nd Common Musters. Now military scouting is quite different then exploration scouting but the crew and the younger Zebulon see it that they've been scouting for X number of years and feel that the standard conventions for shares in profits from exploration should apply. Thus information is being sold or given to every interested party and their litter mate. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

Yes, that jealousy over profits and fame plays into my concept along with ye olde love triangle and an exploration tragedy thrown in. Joe Cabadas |

Very feasible, Yan-Soon was a subordinate of Jameson before the Colonel retired. |

@ shadowshack ok perhaps we should raid you project for a Star Ships of the 2nd Common Muster article or talk you into writing it. Pair that with an adventure set during the muster and find a bit of fiction for that period and we'd have enough for the beginnings of a magazine theme. Inevitably a fourth article would turn up. I started a section for this in my Historical Adventures project and then began searching for other bits, remembering this was discussed a few years ago. Anyways...if nobody else has addressed this then I invite you to check out the project: Ultimately I will have to add the First Common Muster there as well, if nothing else but as a filler between the two eras I have there now. I'll definitely have to mine this thread for ideas and update the project accordingly. |
JCab747 February 18, 2018 - 9:59am | Hey Shadow: I am going to start reading your posts with estreme interest. Joe Cabadas |
Shadow Shack February 18, 2018 - 10:43am | Be sure to navigate through the Documents section, I have started four different books there now with the Truane's Star series being the most prominently developed and the First Sathar War being semi-developed. The other two are just titles/space holders at the moment. http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/3678 |
JCab747 February 18, 2018 - 8:37pm | You have a lot of good details for this early history. Maybe it should be a submission to Star Frontiersman. If I remember, Tom Stephens wants to relaunch that magazine with more adventures. This stuff fits the bill. Joe Cabadas |
jedion357 February 22, 2018 - 7:43am | I'm going to make a proposal on shadow's 4 books in the Adventures in History project: The name Adventures in History is a little ho hum. its not bad but its not very inspiratational. the title "The Age of Colonization" with an appropriate subtitle like "Rise of the Megacorps" sounds so much better. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack February 22, 2018 - 10:44am | It's just a project name. ;) I'm good with "Age of Colinization" as a common tie-in for the books. |
