Well I've been meaning to start 3d'ing for some time now. So I finally picked up Hexagon, Friday, and I'm starting to tinker with it. One thing that's always been on my "list" has been the sathar. So learning as I go I'm up to here so far.

Saving the head for last since I figure it will be the hardest part, but I've run into a couple of question marks... How many fingers does the satharian hand have?  Anyone think it has a thumb like tentacle?

Four "fingers" on the smaller, "hand" tentacles.  At least that's what is depicted in the AD rule book image.

And you should talk with Art Eaton at the starfronteirs.org site.  He might have some 3D sathar models he could share with you.

I only counted three but I'm probably just being blind.  Someone else has done sathar models?  Cool, I created an account over there and I'll send him a PM to see if he has any examples he can share.

The one thing I love about PC's is that it is so easy to redo stuff. I always cluttered up paper with all those eraser bits.

Think I got the twist for the legs down finally.

legs

Now if I can just figure out a way to join them to the body without getting too many of those ngon thingies. Is Art still active?

As far as I know, he's still active (I just had an e-mail converstation with him recently) although the starfrontiers.org forums are pretty dead.  PM me and I'll send you his e-mail.

Thanks, sent.

Okay, got the body, arms, and legs.

scale

Like how the foot pads turned out but need to pose them still. Not happy with the tentacle fingers but I can revisit them later. Time to get started on the head but I've been wondering... Is the scale okay? Shouldn't the sathar be a little shorter? As far as the arms and legs, should I move them one segment higher?

Thoughts?

No, I think the scale is about right.  Once you add the head and bend the neck over a bit they'll be fairly short.  Assuming the head is attached straight on to the body segments you have, those top two segments are going to bend over so they can look foward.  Plus if you lower the raised portion so the bend in just below the larger tentecles for their slithering movement, that looks about right to be a meter of body upright.

Yeah, I'm adding the head straight on. Hehe... Looks like I should have grouped instead of welded so need to edit it all. Really looking forward to trying different poses and such. Rigging is going to be interesting once I figure out the best hiearchy.

Was thinking about making the pistol from the cover of face of the enemy. Maybe I'll go with a laser rifle instead. The head is being a pain in the posterior. Will need to experiment with it.

Well its been a real learning experience and its still ongoing. Its taken days of tinkering to figure out how to pose the model and...

Hehe

Yeah, still needs some work. Laughing

Still plugging away and finally figured out the posing issue. I wasn't doing the weight maps correctly. I'm still not getting it to bend right, need more flexibility, but at least its finally getting there. Wow! Hope the clothing is easier to make.
