jedion357 January 18, 2013 - 12:36pm | None. IIRC none of the sathar in the SF-2 module had any defensive suits. I would say they eventually developed defensive suits after contact with the Frontier. EDIT: Two of the miniatures that TSR released had them in space suits. EDIT2: Your discription of their society is such that I dont think they bother with clothing except possibly for hazardous environment. But then the whole live simply without technology back to basics thing wouldn't want or need hazardous envrionment suits nor want them. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller January 18, 2013 - 3:04pm | In all the pictures I have seen the Sathar never seem to wear clothing and identify themselves with tattoos are their heads. Guessing their society is not geared toward clothing. Interesting how that would affect their house plans? Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 January 18, 2013 - 5:05pm | Well if no clothing and the body style that we see suggests a naturally warm environment. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller January 18, 2013 - 7:32pm | the book says it is believed they are endothermic or warm-blooded: maintaining a constant body temperature despite changes in the temperature of the environment considering they are much more liquid then humans we might consider that they have an anti-freeze and coolant pumping through their liquid insides at a much more steady temperature than humans thus making clothing no as necessary. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 January 19, 2013 - 3:42pm | alright, there seems to be some general direction on no clothing or at least no one has disagreed with that. so I'll bring up another area of adornments: jewelry. We know they employ tattoos as adornments what about jewelry? I have a feeling that with the high fluid pressure that they must maintain that they do not go in for body piercing- talk about springing a leak. Would they employ jewelry or is tattoos their only adornment? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller January 20, 2013 - 5:40am | Adornments are a much more cultural thing than clothing since they are not a necessity. None of the pictures or minis show any jewelry on the Sathar and since they are described as being a quasi-Spartan culture I do not see them wearing anything which was not needed for the mission at hand. Of course they could have a merchant/noble/civilian castes which have adopted jewelry. The Frontier just hasn't seen them. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
vmnjn January 21, 2013 - 8:56am | Well we do see the sathar wearing what looks like armor in some artwork. Like the Volturnus module and the Saurian article. However, I don't ever recall seeing them in anything I would call regular clothing. In fact, didn't the ones where they wore armor look like they had shoulders? Will have to dig up those pics. I picked up Hexagon Friday and spent this weekend tinkering with a sathar model. Slow going since I've never done anything with 3d before, but its getting there. Once I'm mostly happy with it I'm going to want to put something on it. Of course I'll do an armor one, but I was pondering other scenes as well. In non-combat scenes I find myself pondering what clothes might they wear. If not clothing then what else might they wear, decoratively at least. |
vmnjn January 21, 2013 - 6:34pm | I like the armor shot above and it doesn't seem to include any shoulders. Unlike the ones in Volturnus which seem to add shoulders. Now I would ponder that a race prone to dehydration, earthworms try to keep their skin wet, might want some sort of clothing that would help keep their skin from drying out. The saurian art shows even their tales being covered. |
jedion357 January 21, 2013 - 8:42pm | The dehydration issue is good I would still go with them not normally using clothing but for hazardous environments they do - volturnian desert, combat, space etc I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Karxan January 26, 2013 - 8:58pm | IIRC, pilots wear special suits that help keep their blood circulation more stable in a high-g manuever. Maybe sathar have some type of suit that helps with their fluidity. It could be armor or just an environmental suit. The material could expand and contract along with the muscles to help with movement. |
