Captured recordings show that sathar can speak yazirian and human languages as well as Pan-Galactic. They hiss and lisp when they speak. Their native language has never been translated.

So how do they speak?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Start with how they don't talk.

They can't speak Vrusk. Since we know the Vrusk use alot of clicks in their language the Sathar must not have any hard parts to click together in their mouths.

The Dralasite language uses scents and body shapes as part of it but these are not so much a barrier to speaking it then this part. Dralasites have the widest range of sound production of all the races being able to recreate any sound. I am guessing the Sathar have a limited vocal range whic prenvets them from speaking Dralasite.

They lisp and hiss when they speak Human and Yazirian. Given their very wet bodies and round mouths they must push air through. Thinking part of their problem is they can not completely close their mouths especially being round.

There was a Star Trek the Next Generation episode where Picard got kidnapped by another ship captain from a race the Federation was never able to translate their language. Turns out they spoke only in metaphors based on their mythology. Since no one knew their mythology they had no basis to learn the language. Great episode on how language works especially since C3PO never bothered to explain languages.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?
