Posse, "Raise your right hand..."

Channel surfing I briefly watched an old western where a US marshal (like a star law marshal) deputized a local-"Do you solemnly swear to uphold the laws of the United States in the territory of ________ so help you God?"
Response- "I do"

"Congratulations, you are now a deputy US marshal."

in the story a posse was being formed.

Question is would a Star Law marshal do this? probably not on a high to medium population world unless it was an extreme situation, like he could not trust the local law enforcement. Or on a corporate world/outpost where he could not trust the company security.

They can commandeer a space ship and by default the crew of that ship becomes agents of star law if the ship is fired upon they will have to respond and would be covered by the commandeering authority so the act of commandeering a ship is a defacto deputization of its crew.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

The term "agents" might be better served as deputies.
In core areas of the frontier (medium to high population centers) a Star Lawman could easily recruit in an emergency. In the fringes of the frontier, space-law might be more loose, crews unwilling to jeopardize their ships and equipment (parts hard to replace, want to stay under the radar, etc.)

CJ covered some concepts in Star Law Revisited, Star Frontiersman #15.

Referee: A group of non-Star Law individuals may be recruited and deputized as “Star Law Emergency Deputies”, usually from local law enforcement, whose mission is to help out Star Lawmen in trouble or assist an officer in locating a criminal, but never for tracking down a Sathar, as that takes special training. They can only be assembled by a Planetary Officer, Ranger, Marshal, or  Coordinator. Their stats are usually normal for their race, and they should be armed and armored competitively by the Referee. The posse does not exist to haul the player’s afterburners out of the fire all the time. They can help if the Referee has swamped the players with foes or as henchmen. In some cases, a PC may be a deputized individual of this type.

If the posse is made up of local law enforcement officers riding off into the sunset after the bad guys does that mean the rest of the party can now loot the town and get away since there are no cops left to arrest them?
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

More likely, a PC group (already armed, probably with a ship) could be deputized to help as a posse, or maybe a mercenary group might be, too.

I wonder if local (planetary, corporate) authorities might be opposed to Star Law meddling in their worlds as much as possible, and limit the authority of SL?

(I just watched the John Wayne movie "The Searchers" last week, it opened with some of the characters sworn in by the local judge/parson as Texas Rangers to pursue a Comanche warband.)

Well after watching all those episodes of Criminal Intent, NCIS and The Mentalist I always see how the local law enforcement (LEOs) welcome the assistance of the hotshotting, better funded, and "we're in charge so go get us some coffee" state and federal agencies, so of course the sheriff and her four deputies on the colony world are going to love to stop everything they are doing and go running off with Star Law. Those DUIs and domestic violence calls can just take care of themselves, there are smuggling pirates to chase.
