Join Today! The Distinguished Assembly of Dungeon masters. D.A.D. These are dungeon masters that are passing on the torch of gaming to their kids (or neices and nephews) at least once a month. This is the offical call for founding members and imput on qualifications to be a D.A.D.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

No kids, this torch will fizzle as I draw my last breath. Hopefully I'll find a worthy source to pass my goods onto before that happens.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Well, actually this is just the germ of an idea, it started with an email comversation with oncefaroff mentioning playing with his kids. There are a few of us who have rug rats and play rpgs with them and i was thinking of something that would support that activity BUT if anyone around here deserves to be labelled a distinguished GM you would qualify. Truth be told you only have a window of oppertunity to play with your kids and them what? Your out of the club?

As i drove around thinking about this today it seemed to me that it should be more inclusive, have some swag- ie you register and get some tangible item hat, patch, mug, t shirt, etc. and the profit all goes to charity. So the working title of DAD doesnt have to be the title in fact I rolled master into Dungeon just to get the acrostic i wanted. It could equally be DAD-MAD for Distinguished Assembly of Dungeonmasters Making A Difference. It would simply be a loose association of distinguished game master promoting gaming (any system) and supporting charity. On the charity issue- my daughter was born with birth defects and has recieved top notch care at Childrens Hospital Boston so that place is dear to my heart. Yet it seems to me that a nation wide or concievably international fund raising group probably should have a broader charity besides one local hospital. I also have a soft spot for army nurses having worked with many over the years when i was i was nursing homes and found their dedication to quality care second to none and now that my brother and his wife are army nurses and he's shared some of his expiences in the emergency room in Iraq I'm of the opinion that army nurses come pretty damn close to walking on water. So perhaps the charity might be one helping injured vets? Have to look into the ones out there.

As to scope of the group- game masters making a differnece though some fund raising and through promoting gaming. Focus is not any one system but all rpg systems. Perhaps have a forum for people to discuss issue related to running games for your kids, where to find adult players, organizing meet ups at Cons. General stuff plus and open forum for the threads for people who need to gripe about D&D version 7.5 It would largely be you pay a membership fee, get your bit of swag to wear saying you a distinguished DM and the profit goes to charity, extra items like a t shirt or hat can be purchased with proceeds also going to charity. I have little doubt that any number of the actively published fan magazines for a whole host of rpgs wouldn't mind publishing a one page ad for the group. Feedback?

Ok: new name idea: D.O.G.
Distinguished Order of Gamemasters

Theme song is "Who Let the Dogs Out" but with new lyrics- "Who let the dogs roll; Roll, Roll, Roll, Roll....."

You go to conventions and look for who else is wearing a "I'm A D.O.G." pin, patch, hat or t shirt
