Well I'm off to wander Boston with the kids and see and do cheep or free stuff, though my daughters want to wear princess costumes to visit Fort Independence on Castle Island but there just isn't much out that way beside the fort and really greasy fried clams and well that and lots of beach goers but I cant really enjoy myself at the beach with the family along [sigh- if you know what I mean].

Think I'll limit us to locations in the North End, downtown, and Charles Town navy yard (and bunker hill by default) and see what turns up as we walk around. There is a harbor fest on celebrating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 which no doubt means we can get on board a tall ship today somewhere along the way.

At anyrate, I hope you enjoy the holiday and if I'll offer this misquote from one of my favorite lines from the War of 1812 and one kick ass American victory over the British, "Don't give up the starship!"

Have fun! We did the 4th stuff with the other fire departments Saturday and are no waiting for the "celebrators" to do the usual stuff. IE drive drunk, assault each other and burn stuff up shooting fireworks when we've had two days of not good rain in the last two weeks.

Go see the pro fireworks. It makes our work alot easier.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Boston is death on fireworks but then you can just take the drive to NH to get them, we live close to some housing projects and inevitably there are "local" fireworks.  Still the fire works at the Charles River are awesome but with small children with weak bladders we just watch that show from home.

Here's the girls on the Captain Kidd walking scavenger hunt, this statue wasn't part of the hunt but the girls wanted to cowgirl up on it. There were actually brass foot prints in front of it with elephants engraved in them for those who wanted to stand in opposition to the jackass.

Man!  You make me miss Boston.  We always went to see the fireworks in Tewksbury because it is convenient to Billerica where we lived.  I also miss having colonial soldiers and red coats.  Here in Utah they always throw in mountain men.  I should get a musket and a colonial outfit and march in the West Jordan parade as a minute man in memory of my great ... great grandfathers (father and son) who fought on Bunker Hill.  I have to look it up to find out how many generations back it was.  Anyway that would put a little spirit back into the parade to compensate for the over abundance of karate and dance schools, and politicians.  My daughters marched in the parade today for Girl Scouts and my Sons with the Boy Scouts, so this is on my mind.  This year my wife marched with the Girl Scouts and I stayed on the side lines with the two littlest ones.  Normally I am in with the Boy Scouts.  The parade is my opportunity to show off my collection of historical US flags.

Well, time to go out and help the kids burn up the back yard with smoke bombs.  It's still being debated if we will go see the city fireworks or do some in front of the house.

Happy 4th to my Frontier friends. I am enjoying making Craisin's at work tonight. We have a tradition for the last 2 years. Dad works and everyone else does something else. Last year the family went to some friends house for the night events. Today my daughters went to a fiends BBQ then came home. My wife and girls(15,20) are at the beach right now lighting the fireworks and watching the rest of the coast line here in WA let theirs off too.

Thanks to all who have made this country free, from the 1700's until now.
