Just came home from Afganistan. Just been reading the forums. It's been a long while since I have had a chance to look at them. I see a lot of new people posting on them. Welcome to the table, all. Just wanted to let you all know that I am back safe and sound, I can finally have coffee without grounds in the bottom of the cup. Nobody is shooting at me and I dont have to check the area for explosives before I get out of the vehicle. Even at Wal-Mart. The wife and I had another baby while I was away. That makes a total of five. A few more and I will have an assault scout crew. hee hee. I do not want to sound condescending but; Questions I will not answer for you, Whats combat actualy like? It's not like TV or the movies. Real people get hurt. Did you kill anybody? Yes but it is not something I want to talk about. Other than that feel free to ask questions about deployment.
The bombing starts in five minutes.

Well dude welcome back, glad your safe. And after watching the video/slide show cd my brother made of his time in a combat support hospital in Iraq I'm pretty sure I dont want to ask the questions nor hear the answers to the questions you dont want to talk about. I listened to my brother's stories because I could tell he wanted to tell them but I found them pretty disturbing and I have not yet watched the video/slide show a second time - althought it would be cool to see the security camera footage of one chopter on the ground outside the ER entrance when the pilot had forgot to deactivate the flare system and another chopter passed over it and the hot down draft set off that defense system- That was a pretty cool light show.

But anyway glad your safe. And the baby's healthy?

I'd love to hear stories about your deployment, (outside of the two areas mentioned) dont really have a clue what to ask about; sort of like the few times my Dad and I had a more than a few beers together over the past few years and he openned up about his Air Force exp based in Thailand during Vietnaum. He has some awesome stories, some pretty freaky stories and some funny stuff i had never heard. Largely because I had never thought he'd been in danger because radar techs are suppose to just work on the radar in a shop just off the flightline.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Welcome back. Made sure my family prayed for you while you were there. My cousin is there now.
Not sure what unit though. Hopefully things will get back to whatever is normal for you. Congrats on the new little one.

Welcome home, and thanks for taking care of the freedom business.

As a local Las Vegas resident, I only have to ask how you dealt with heat that makes my climate seem like Antarctica. More so wearing all that "stuff".
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Welcome home and congratulations on the new baby.  I'm taking my scout troop to scout camp in a week with a guy in our neighborhood that also just got back from Afghanistan.  The boys that know he is coming are excited to have him along.  You are looked up to by the generation of boys that are young teenagers now.  Keep it up.

"what's combat like?"
Gosh, son - you had a ring-side seat! When I saw my elephant, it was loud, noisy, confusing, and near overload levels, then, nothing.... Not like the old COMBAT! series I used to watch, but pretty near surreal and unbelievable, but you're there. Thank goodness for 'combat drills' - redundant, sure, but they do save lives due to their automatic nature to react when needed.

Your task is to discharge all your new wonderful skills you learned the hard way, practiced daily, and reorient to life in the 'world'. Just like walking, one step at a time... You can do it, but don't be afraid to ask for help - its not a weakness, its an ear to bend, a hand to guide, or a sholder to cry on. Those levels of stress can do some mighty weird stuff - I've been there, it it took a little time to unwind.

Relish in the life, love, and the warmth of your family - their strenght is your fortitude.
