jedion357 February 2, 2012 - 7:16am | The title for this thread comes from the history description on Exib here: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/6012 The Call to Warriors is something that either Yast or Exib's Council of Clans can initiate where in a time of emergency any citizen that can swing a khadan is mobilized till the emergency is over. Purpose of the thread is to work up a brief on the Athor militia (non void capable and limited to boarding shuttles and fighters and or system ship) equipment and organization Determine how non yazirian characters can be worked in as not every player will want to play a yazirian but perhaps the non yazirians could be officers on loan to the Athor militia from another service. Could easily be as simple as a human living on Yast who is doing his civil service requirement and ended up in the militia, (though entrance to the militia was written as being very competitive and requiring connections). and craft 5-7 encounters both AD and KHs style with a thin storyline that can be a whole campaign or simply worked into a larger campaign similar to those in ADKH-0 module. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 2, 2012 - 8:10am | Officer and enlisted rank names? Yazirian clan flavor is probably called for. Chief of the ship or chief of the wing, etc. Rank and file are called warriors- its the base rank and yet the generic term used for everyone in the service. Sort of lends itself to motivational speaches right before combat. Equipment: HS 2 shuttles- so there is room for boarding parties, a squadron of fighter so they have some combat capability, and system ship that functions as a commad ship (perhaps two or a ion powered unarmed/lightly armed ship). Fighters are not the most cutting edge just what they could afford to buy when some one else was upgrading their fighters to the latest and greatest. Perhaps the militia is a more cooperative effort by Yast and Exib (not how I originally wrote it) and they have two main bases: one on the planet and one on the moon. The moon with its lower gravity would be ideal for a quick response by a fighter wing- lower gravity would mean a savings in feul lifting off and possibly a quicker response time. All of which would be difficult to quantify in game terms but still it makes sense that they would do this. So at least two landing fields, each attached to the main star port on both the moon and planet. Encounters: 1. possibly some obligatory ship inspection sort of stuff. 2. Medical and or engineering emergency (Mayday) 3. Natural disaster: alluded to elsewhere- comet breaks up and fragments hit Exib but other things possible I'm thinking that the system can be noted for high concentration of comets. Perhaps a lot of junk is left over from the creation of planets in this system which could mean hazards to space travel. 4. The campaign game does not have a sathar start circle leading to Athor which is possibly one reason they dont have a station, major Space Fleet presence, or significant militia of their own. However that is not to say the sathar can't make an appearance I just consider it unlikely and since two of the encounters were sathar related in Warriors of White Light, my inclination is to not do sathar. 5. Friction with Family of One and Hentz militia muscling in- this does not have to be a KHs encounter but could be an AD encounter with the optimal outcome being a negotiated resolution. 6. Piracy? Athor is the main route into Yazirian space from Prengular, Guna Garu is a 14 LY jump from Prengular as apposed to Athor being an 11 LY jump. Thus making Athor the perfered choice for access to Araks and Scree Fron. That much traffic will attract the undesirables. Pirates are almost cliche so if they are used perhaps an interesting twist is called for. Space Fleet Presence:with a mjor Space Fleet base and Fleet one jump away there patrol group assigned here will likely be a small one. 1 FF and 2 scouts or a couple of assault scouts? or simply a FF. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 2, 2012 - 8:01am | The Kha'dan Connection Been working on this as a yazirian racial weapon and in the evolution of it this weapon is more popular in Athor than Araks so it seems to me that each warrior carries one, You know a "Warrior" because he carries one with the crest of the militia service on the hilt. [That in turn lends itself to PC backgrounds- you're running a yazirian character and specify that he has a kha'dan with a Athor militia crest on the hilt- right away you know a lot about this character- he's from Athor and served honorably in the militia] If you're not familiar with the kha'dan its a fan creation from the late '90s, it was reasoned that the zamra made a poor racial weapon since it could not be used with battle rage and that the yazirians would have a melee weapon that they used with their vaunted battle rage. Since they take a STR/STA racial penalty and a DEX/RS bonus it was reasoned to be something that would hit hard and possibly end a combat with one blow. Enter the short sword sized ghurka knife looking kha'dan. I've confered with the creator by email and phone but we have not been able to find the original statistics on it from the '90s so I've settled on stats that are the same as the sword but in the hands of a yazirian there is a +10% bonus to battle rage attemps. I plan to create a Sword maker NPC- a former miner from Hargut with Blue Lung disease that emmigrated to Exib for his health and since he had a background in metals and engineering he turned to sword making, first apprenticing then becoming a master sword maker in his own right. Dont have specific plans to use him yet just a hazy idea to make the NPC. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 April 6, 2012 - 4:57pm | To Do List: 1. Intro and life in the Athor Combined Defence Command [ACDC] The ACDC is the combined military of both Yast and Exib, each body governs its own affairs but both work together to support the system militia. Need to cover how non yazirians would be in the ACDC and most likely it was a personell exchange with another militia, not so much that another militia like the Royal Marines would need its personnel to be trained by the ACDC but that the ACDC really could use some of its personnel trained on void capable star ships which it currently lacks though an assualt scout of its very own is on the top of the ACDC's wish list. 2. System brief, Planetary brief on Yast, planetary brief on Exib (Yast's moon) Maps? 3. write up 4, 5 or 6 encounters; mix of AD and KHs encounters, Location maps? 4. Tech journal on the ACDC commad ship/fighter tender/ system ship to include deck plans and detailed write up. 5. Artwork- color cover and black and white interior illustrations Yazirian "warriors" in militia service perhaps a token human I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 November 18, 2013 - 10:48am | I had forgotten about coming up with ACDC for the Athor Combined Defense Command. But i just got the title for an Athor militia adventure: ACDC, Back in the Black. Which in turn suggests a theme song to listen to while writing this up. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
