What are the sorts of technology that geeks in the actual Star Frontiers setting playing a RPG would be envisioned as a little (or a lot) beyond their present technology? In other words what are the Ultra technologies? 1. Artificial gravity (an obvious one) 2. Quantum Computers- able to use quantum mechanics to compute millions of outcomes in a sec and come up with the correct answer. CPU of such a device would be the size of a pin head. Power of this thing is mind blowing 3. I would contend that sub space radios and matter transmission (bap bins) is on par with this level of tech. One reason I make sub space radios unavailable in early history games. and bap bins a post SW2 item. other ideas? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

TerlObar November 20, 2011 - 8:54pm | Ultra miniaturization - computer weapons, power sources. i.e. a "laser pistol" that is the equivalent of "current" heavy laser that has a 200 SEU clip, body comps that can hold dozens of level 6 programs, etc. On a side note, I don't think sub-space radios should be future tech. The opening blurb in the AD basic rules state that the three races were communication via subspace radio long before they ever developed FTL and met in person. However, a more advanced form of subspace radio (i.e. one ly per minute instead of one ly per hour) would definitely qualify. Ad Astra Per Ardua!
