( MORE TO COME, NEED TO GET SOME REST BEFORE FINISHING TYPING)
Should we explore the idea of expanding these skills?

Here's my thought;
  1. Using Knowledge and Repair for the Computer, Robotics and Technician skill does not make sense. If you have knowledge of something you should be able to repair it. Knowledge should be for things like Knowledge:Biochemist, Knowledge:Astrogation
  2. When choosing the Repair skill the player has an option to choose one of three sub-skills instead of the Repair skill alone. At character creation you pick the Repair skill, assign a die type and choose a sub-skill.  When you reach an Advance (5 experience) you may choose another sub-skill or increase the current skill per the rules on page 37. See example;
Advance example;
Sean creates a character named Skulldamn and chooses the Repair skill. At this time he does not pick one of the three sub-skills (computers, robotics, technician) so his still works for any repair outside those skill areas. After receiving 5 points he decides to choose Repair again and then selects computers as the sub-skill. When he receives another 5 points he can choose robotics or technician.

I'm still stuck on "Skulldamn"  .... where da heck did you find that name?

Ok, now that I've gone back a reread your post (and subsituted "JohnnyCool" for "SkullDamn" when reading out loud...) I agree with where I see this going. I also, felt that the PSA's were too constraining, and yes, I think in these instances Knowledge and Repair become redundant. Unless I'm missing something. I'd say, let's go with it your suggestion for now, move on, and then edit as we playtest.

Evil Name Generator. lol Tongue out

Here's my issue after re-reading this morning. Are there any Repair uses (or skills) outisde COMPUTERS, ROBOTICS, TECHNICIAN. I really don't think so. ya know?
I'll update the doc so we can play-test.

I'm pasting this from the Document since the text will be removed. It's really an optional rule that can be used for SWSF.

This section is the old way we were thinking of breaking out sub-skills.

Repair
This skills is broken out into three skill areas and for the purposes of Savage Worlds are treated as separate skills.
Repair:Computers
Repair:Robotics
Repair:Technician

Example;
Sean wants to create a computer slicer a character named Jo!Cool-eh' and chooses the Repair:Computers skill. Atthis time he does not pick one of the three sub-skills (computers,robotics, technician) so his still works for any repair outside thoseskill areas. After receiving 5 points he decides to choose Repair againand then selects computers as the sub-skill. When he receives another 5points he can choose robotics or technician.

How about approaching it from a different direction?

Keep the skills as Repair, per SW, but specializing is an Edge. Most Edges allow for a +2 drm to a given skill, so have separate ones for Computer, Technician and Robotics (and spaceship Engineer, too).

Example:
Sean wants to create a computer slicer named Jo!Cool-eh' and chooses the Repair skill. After receiving 5 points he decides to choose {computers} as an Edge. When he receives another 5 points he can choose robotics or technician.

 - Repair d4
 - Repair: Computers d4+2

Putraak,
Have you seen this type of skill + edge setup in other SW settings or adventures? I really like the idea but don't want to add too much extra's to SW. I'd like it playable out of the box.

I've just been introduced to SW through Con's so I'm not an expert. Looking forward to your response.

I'm only partly familiar with one setting (Red Sands), and upon further review, they seem to add the +2 to more than one skill, and/or add some other special ability.  So, it would be something more like +2 with Repair when fixing computers, +2 to Knowledge (Computers), and maybe something else.
