This thread is to suggest possible creatures for for the ecosystem of Hum.

Naturally some thought must be given to the actual ecology of their native world, see:
http://starfrontiers.us/node/4424

Simply based off the similarity in name I would opt for the krik to be from Fokrik system.
I kind of picture them as large, dangerous herbavores that are dangerous to the hunter

plus there should be native parasites, other creatures, etc
imported species- cryxian roaches, wyvoles (yazirian creature) admired for its hunting prowess possibly

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Suggested Krik Stats:
Large herbivore, 1300kg, 4.5m at the shoulder, number: 2-20, Move: Fast (90m), IM/RS: +6/55, STA 125, ATTack: 50, Head butt 2d10/ bite 1d10/ trample 3d10, Special defence: Thick tough hide: acts as skien suit-only 1/2 ballistic and normal melee damage penetrates & poison resistence: -7 from the strength of a poison, Special attack: should involve the trample attack

Description large bipedal, short necked dinosaur like creature that runs on 2 legs
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Spit Fire Bug- cross between bombadier beetle and dragon fly
spits volitile liquid that burst into flame on contact with air
individually they can hurt you but if a swarm becomes agitated then there is the possibility of the whole swarm blowing off and filling a 2m radius or more area with a fire ball

they are poisonous to eat but humma like them

Limit the number of spits per turn/minute/hour or day.

Puff Lizard, Tiny herbavore (3kg), Number 2-200, Fast move 90m/turn, IM/RS: +8/80, STA: 5, Attack 45, Dam 1d5. Native Planet: Hum
Special defense: Puff lizards are fast and quick to scurry away from danger. But if they feel threatened they will "puff" from a gland that circles the neck creating a puff of gas that acts like smoke from a typical smoke grenade (obscures and STA check or -10 to all actions) however it takes 10 puff lizards simultaneously "puffing" to fill a 2 meter square but if one puffs they all puff and a cloud of gas is created filling one 2meter square/ 10 lizards in the group- Gm chooses squares and all lizard scatter for cover.

The lizard will not generally attack unless cornered then it will bite once and seek to run away.

Their skin is banded with bands of White Yellow Tan in a continuous patter down the length of their bodies.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Pit Lizard, Tiny omnivore (3kg), Number 1-100, Fast move 100m/turn, IM/RS: +7/70, STA 5, Attack 45, Dam 1d5, Native planet: Hum.
Special Defense: On any successful melee or balistic hit roll on the grenade bounce table to see which direction a spray of poison errupts from the gland circling the neck. Anyone in the path of the spray takes T6 D6 poison hit RS check halves the ammount to T3 D3.
Special Attack: On any successful melee attack the Pit Lizard locks its jaws and will automatically do 1d5 damage every turn till pulled off (STR check) or killed. Killing them (by melee or other ballistic damage) while their jaws are locked cause poison spray with 50% chance of dousing the character they are locked onto (no RS check for half is possible) otherwise roll a grenade bounce for direction.

Pit Lizards are very fast and aggressive and look a lot like Puff Lizards except they are banded White, Yellow, White, Tan in a continuous pattern. They are omnivorous and will swarm larger prey. On Hum the saying goes< "Two bands of white, ones that bite."

Why the large numbers of 2-200 and 1-100 on the Puff and Pit Lizards?  Do they travel in herds?

From the description of both creatures, I'd tend to think so.

My question: Do the two lizard species have a common evolutionary ancestor?
" 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death."

yes large packs; one is not very dangerous but the other certainly is, they do have a evolutionary common branch somewhere. but then I hate a D&D monster manuel for a SF creature catalog I feel that there should be some similarities and themes expressed in the evolution of the creatures from the same planet. In much the same what that you could describe the similarities betweeen wolves, bears, horses, etc.

Aside from the fact that Humma probably consider them both good eating, yeah.
