One of the human ships from Earth jumped a little farther than the others. They found a habitable planet and named it Ozark because of the vast mountain ranges, valleys and lakes. The ship was badly damaged and crashed landed. Nothing was salvageable. The people lived off the land and built homes from local material. After a few years a town started to form, something reminisce of Earth's old west. Elders were elected to maintain the good of the colony. One day they hoped to make contact with the other ships from Earth.

Over the years their attitudes changed, mostly from bitterness they swore they would have nothing to-do with "out worlders" if they ever returned.

One year after re-contact with humans this newly discovered planet has been opened up to settlers. An organized land rush is about to commence. A ggroup of thugs is hiding out in the land rush territory hoping to waylay settlers before they can make a claim (they want the best land).
