w00t (not verified) April 1, 2009 - 2:28pm | I play SF with my wife. Just the two of us. I have some friends in the area that used to play SF or play only with their families. I'm hopeful the FrontierSpace project is published this year looking spiffy and SF'ish so I can GM at my local hobby shop. What the w00t wants: WWW - Mini adventures, teasers and twists - An SF cartoon! - Space Station Deck Plans - Gear - More artwork from Shell !! (hint, hint) - Review of past Dragon articles |
Shadow Shack April 1, 2009 - 2:44pm | I want a limited edition foil embossed "Hoverbikes and Holo-babes" issue o Playing AD for the most part with my wife, when the D&D game gets stale...she still hasn't progressed to KH yet |
pineappleleader April 1, 2009 - 5:41pm | A Yazirian Dart Board...with live Yazirian attached and gaged. Actually: More of Bill's Character Archetypes. A Common Name Generator for each of the Races: Roll 1d10 or 2d10 and consult one or two tables. More Classified Ads. Line Drawings of Characters in different poses and equipment, especially the Vrusk. (These seem hardest to find suitable pictures of). 28mm paper "Standie" Miniature Figures of common SF races, creatures and vehicles. These could be full color or even line drawings, so you could color them yourself. (For examples of what I mean: Savage Worlds RPG has some nice paper minis collections.). More Mini Campaigns with Sample Characters (Like SECTOR SIX in SFM #6). Alternate Star Frontiers Universes and Adventures (Like the 2001 and 2010 Modules). These could be any cool Sci. Fi. setting, of your own design, or from popular fiction (with "the numbers" filed off). |

Fi. setting, of your own design, or from popular fiction (with "the numbers" filed off). Hmm...I actually have a lot of Star Wars stuff converted over to SF stats. Talk about a licensing nightmare though! Check out http://www.mfbb.net/?mforum=starfrontiers it has a Star Warsy feel without the obvious plagarism...it's still very much Star Frontiers. There's a beat up merchant scout that is Millenium Falcon-ish, a Han Solo-esque captain of said scout, an agro-worlder co-pilot vrusk a la Luke Skywalker sans any jedi potential, a dralasite and ifshnit pair of techies that are well versed in all things enemy-territory (a la many Rogue Squadron pilots that wre former TIE pilots), a pair of wookie-grade yazirian gunners for the scout, a female Dash Rendar-esque ex-pirate fighter pilot, an NPC Obi-Wan Kenobi-ish elder vruskan mentalist, R2D2-ish maintenance robots, an Emporer-esque villain ruling the Frontier via a massive build up in fleet ships and personnel (including stormtrooper-ish armor clad shock troops), and a bionically enhanced dralasitic Darth Vader. And oh yeah, can't forget about the resurrected Malthar aka Jabba the Hutt that the Millenium Falcon-ish merchant scout is licensed under. The game is reaching a climactic point, ripe for a new player to jump in. Maybe I could do a write up of the transpired events for a future issue. P.S. thanks, Terl...Larry PM'd me that he can get one out. And Thanks, Larry! |

Check out Thanks for the link. I have played only one game of Star Wars d6...as an Imperial Stormtrooper. I loved it. The Rebellion failed in our game world and Darth Vader became Emporer. Those little furballs on Endor never knew what hit them.
The game is reaching a climactic point, ripe for a new player to jump in. I've never played on line. As a single parent with two teenagers, one is a special needs child, I really don't have the time. Thanks for the offer though.
Maybe I could do a write up of the transpired events for a future issue. Sounds like a good idea. |

Yazarian Rum. (SHUDDER) A nice Vrusk Honey Mead or Stout. That would hit the spot. What is the rectal temperature of a three-toed sloth? Your primary skill area is the Biosocial PSA, isn't it. What pineappleleader said. Thank You. |
SmootRK April 2, 2009 - 7:40am | The paper standees is a great idea. It is a successful product that Savage Worlds does for all their settings. Would be nice to see this as a regular sort of feature... one page devoted to some characters and critters. I would like to see more mini adventures or little locales that can be plugged into any campaign. Something like Space Tavern X with maps and lists of interesting NPCs, or Hover Biker Hangout, Police HQ & Jail on backwater planet or distant space station... that sort of thing. Of course critters from all parts of the Frontier. <insert witty comment here> |
w00t (not verified) April 2, 2009 - 9:16am | Great stuff! I've been thinking... typically submission are one-person-one-submission. I like Smoot's idea; Space Tavern X with maps and lists of interesting NPCs, or Hover Biker
Hangout, Police HQ & Jail on backwater planet or distant space
station A small team of three would be perfect for something like this. One to make maps, one to do the write-up and the third for misc/help. Mini modules in SFMAN! I would suggest making a new project that gets reused each issue. Make the project PRIVATE and MEMBERS only. This way no goodness gets leaked out before the Issue! Anyone up to the task? If so I'll make a new project. |
Shadow Shack April 2, 2009 - 2:34pm | Something like Space Tavern X with maps and lists of interesting NPCs, or Hover Biker Hangout, Police HQ & Jail on backwater planet Hey, I got a HB hangout! The "Pit Stop" located in the seedier side of Point True's warehouse district fits that bill nicely. Stomping grounds for the Triad Sathar hovercycle gang, currently led by the bionically enhanced "Terra" Bill (get it? Terra Bill? Terrible) whose members are adorned with bits from actual sathar specimens via encounters in the past (a shrunken head, a vest made of worm skin, etc). |
SmootRK April 2, 2009 - 4:01pm | I put that one in there just to get you excited.... worked! <insert witty comment here> |
Shadow Shack April 2, 2009 - 6:31pm | To be honest, I only penned the map...parriah filled it all in with the back-story as it was for the game he hosts. |
jedion357 April 2, 2009 - 11:36pm | what am I doing? Splitting my time between painting minis, doing up fresh maps of ships and locales, and work and family Gaming group 1: stalled since Jan/Feb (apparently winter time is to difficult to get together) 2: the other just stalled as the host is moving and we'll not be meeting for a month What resources? not sure but I'd love some new artwork, or (in line with the paper minis) some paper models like the police car in the Paranoia module "Hill Sector Blues" it was a simple cut and make 4 folds and glue four tabs and drop it on the table affair. resin model vehicles can be fairly expensive so if there was a simple paper model of say a hover car or and explorer, I'd use it. Concerning a collaborative project I wouldn't mind working up some maps I was also thinking that some standard robot missions and the functions to fulfill those missions should be detailled so when GMing on the fly you could pull that stuff in and use it and not have to think about it. The AD rule book didn't really flesh this area out. I listed some missions and functions in 2 other threads recently if people like my stuff I'd be happy to work up a submission. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

jedion357 April 3, 2009 - 1:36pm | This isn't really meant to be a serious submission its just something I wipped up today upon completion of the hover cycle miniature I was working on in the Miniatures project: http://s237.photobucket.com/albums/ff83/jedion357/?action=view¤t=PAGE1.png hope you enjoy the cartoon/ad PS: if anyone would like to clean up the cartoon pics and do a better version I still have all the original photos. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Ebek_Spaceskimmer April 4, 2009 - 8:22am | Hiya. o What are you doing personally with SF? ---GM'ing a campaign with 4 players (my wife and 3 friends). Going on month 4 or 5. Oh, and converting Paizo's "Age of Worms" 3e D&D adventure path to Star Frontiers. :) o What is your gaming group doing? ---They got 'space-folded' to a new section of the galaxy where they are trying to find equipment they need to patch up the military base they were at when everything went all wonky. Currently they are in an ancient space station that has a computer core that needs them to rid it of radiation-crazed mutants. o What resources would help you play, GM or promote SF? ---NPC/Archtype style stats. The same kind that are in the DRSF Rules (like the "Gun-Fu Expert", the "Human Brick House", etc.)...different levels too. o I know there are questions out there, send them to the zine!!!! ---Ok! I'll get right on that after the game tonight! :) o The new project, FrontierSpace, anything you want to see in the zine? ---Uh, FrontierSpace? Whazzat? ^_^ pming ^_^ "...It's all in the reflexes..." BlUsKrEEm April 5, 2009 - 12:36pm | I'm currently rediscovering SF. I loved it back in the day, but thought the game was dead, untill someone brought up Frontiersapce on a blog. My gaming group mainly plays 4ed D&D and Labarynth Lord. Fiction woulkd probably be the best tool to use to promote SF where I live. Conversion notes for SF ands FS would be nice. |
Ascent April 5, 2009 - 1:34pm | Unfortunately, there are no conversion notes available. A conversion was attempted a while back but the project died. Perhaps you would like to revive the effort. Tony April 6, 2009 - 9:06am | o What are you doing personally with SF? I am running a friend on PBeM version of SF atm. Making up a lot of stuff as I go along. o What is your gaming group doing? I am prepping the game for the begining of a 3rd Sathar incursion. o What resources would help you play, GM or promote SF? I would love to see more system briefs with more informtion on the rest of the systems in SF. More than the paragraph or two you can find scattered around about the different star systems. I guess this is my answer to what I would like to see in the next issue. I am currently starting to work on system data for Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma (or better known as the Plague systems). There is not much information concerning what really happened to these systems and what remains in the system. They are blockading and preventing contact with these planets, but they have been quarantined for decades even though the game timeline says they developed a cure. I am currently developing those planets, backgrounds and current conditions of these systems. They are probably UPF's skeletons in the closet that they would prefer to leave hidden away. |
Inigo Montoya April 8, 2009 - 6:46pm | Many of you guys are such old hats at the game (really, not a remark about your age!) that I imagine you have all the systems, planets and even many cities or outposts all mapped out. Unfortunately I am like many of the others out there who had a brief exposure a long time ago. One thing that I really enjoyed when I found the frontiersman was the system briefs. Any information about planets cities, stations or outposts will just make it that much easier for me to throw an adventure together. I also like the idea of the centerfolds...I mean the couple pages of standies. That would be a cool reoccurring thing (as was mentioned above). Each issue could focus on something different such as ships, vehicles, npc's, pc's, some of the villains the mag introduces... And one more thing...I loved using traps, riddles and puzzles in my D&D games. However, I have had a hard time coming up with such things for a sci-fi setting. Any way A future issue or issues could highlight something like that? |
Ascent April 8, 2009 - 8:10pm | Good post. With regard to those old hats, they don't have as much mapped out as you think. Most of what is out there is available on the net and in the Star Frontiersman. A simple search through the net will reveal all of it. You just need to look. This game did not get the support from TSR it deserved, so there is not as much information out there as there should be. I'm an artist, and I can tell you that it isn't so easy to devote all that time to standees and paper models. Chances are the ones we design this quarter are going to be the only ones you see for quite a while. Your last suggestion is a good one. We should definitely see something on that. Chances are the ones we design this quarter are going to be the only ones you see for quite a while. Wow! I know next to nothing about art. I have watched people draw someone's likeness and been truly amazed. It is like magic to me. I salute you. I wish you good luck on your figures and models. I look forward to seeing them. |
w00t (not verified) April 9, 2009 - 8:23am | -- PLEASE TAKE NO OFFENSE -- I should have worded this topic a little better. The webzine is a community effort; the staff simply takes the submission and turns them into PDF format. Many times we submit our own ideas but we rely on the community as a whole to submit art and articles. If you have an idea that needs fleshed out or is simply short on details, you can submit it and we will help you flesh it out. Or better yet, ask around here to assistance via post or PM. There are lots of good SF material on the 'net but I do not want the webzine to turn into "the net in PDF format". If you see something you like on the 'net, take the ideas and craft your own article. If you see artwork, send us a submission and we will contact the author for permission to print in the webzine. A Note About Future Webzine Releases In the future we will be combining the Star Frontiersman with FrontierSpace(TM). There will be more "meat" to each webzine and you should be able to easy convert stats and tech between the two. |
