Classic Rock songs, inspiration for adventure titles

Listenning to the radio in my new State of Maine is so much fun. The radio stations here lean toward rock while the ones in Boston lean toward pop. I am happy to announce that I have not heard one Justin Beeber song since moving back to Maine!

Of course i regularly listen to the classic rock station so this skews the opportunity for me to hear the Beebs but too bad.

At any rate as I drive around Maine I keep thinking this song that is playing is an awesome inspiration for a SF adventure.

Take "Bad Company" for example, not just the title but the lyrics inspire a corporate/mercenary complicated adventure where allies may just turn out to be enemies at some point. Fun fun!

"Highway to Hell"- classic ACDC and probably very easy to write as an adventure. PCs must run a gauntlet with a vehicle from point A to point B lots of opposition.

Now think about pop song: How about a Hall and Oats classic "Your Kiss is on my List" just doesn't grab you for an adventure title.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I do prefer listening to 80s music when playing SF or D&D and have been inspired to write an adventure based on a handful of those tunes. None come to me at the moment as an example, but I did want to touch on this ---

Bad Company is a great example for an adventure that simply is not moving along at a good pace.

Seriously, just listen to any of their tunes...I mean REALLY listen to them. They all follow the same pattern ending halfway through the tune and the other half is merely the lead singer vocalizing endlessly. Take "Shooting Star" for example (just the first one that popped into my head, considering we're talking STAR Frontiers Cool ) --- I just went to YouTube and found it is nearly a 6½ minute tune. At roughly 3½ minutes, following the guitar solo, "Johnny died in his bed, with a bottle of whiskey & sleeping tablets by his head."

That's it, the story is over. Yet the remainder of the song is additional three minutes --- that's THREE minutes, A.K.A. the other half of the song --- let me repeat that again because they were quite successful with that same pattern: three minutes worth of "Don't you know that you are a shooting star, don't you know, yeah, don't you know-whoa-whoa-whoa-whoa don't you don't you don't you don't you don't you don't you know shooting star-ar-ar-ar blah blah blah shooting star yeah yeah yeah shooting star."

The sad fact that they became successful using this method is the reason why other completely pointless tunes such as "Who Let the Dogs Out" became so popular.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Also noteworthy, if you're listening to 80s music while playing 80s RPG, you're not getting the full experience unless you're listening to it on vinyl or cassette tape. Wink

dont own a record player anymore and even though vinyl is selling in stores, remember seeing it in Borders books this year I haven't bothered to buy any.

I recommend simply taking the titles of rock songs as inspiration for adventure titles.

Firefly, of course, is about a crew in a tramp freighter, and just about all of the characters are haunted by their pasts. Sounds pretty Star Frontiers-ish to me.
