Looking for imput and ideas so fire away. Purpose should be obivous: article for the magazine.

Premise #1: this will be a short table laden article that will be concerned with good science but not handicapped by it that the article or tables become encumbered

Premise #2: its a one time read and forget it article till you, as a referee need an ecological impact for your setting. so it will be brief and fast and loose with the science but try to maintain a veneer of science.

Chance of Ecological impact:
Total the modifiers below and roll d100 if result is lower than the total of the modifiers then there is an ecological impact on this planet.

Heavy population +10

Industry, agriculture, or resource element to planet's economy +10 (only counts once not accumulative)

Site of mega corp headquarters +10

Planet is judged to have major mega corp activity despite the lack of a MC headquarters +10

High volume of nuclear powered starships landing and taking off +10

alien ruins +10

Recent or ongoing military action +10

Presence of refugees +10

Example: Clarion- hvy pop +10, resource economy +10, mega corp headquartered there +10, referee's opinion that the presence of multiple major space stations in orbit reduces the volume of nuclear powered craft from landing on planet so no +10 for that. Clarion has a 30% chance of an ecological impact.

Next is to roll on the ecological impact table NOTE im still assembling impacts so feel free to suggest one. Each impact will have a discription and a table for contributing factors.

1. Poisoning of environment

2. dying off of 1 or more native species

3 Climate change

4. ?

5. ?

Perhaps one of the impact rolls can be roll again and add to the impact thus it could be that there is poisoning of the environment and dying off of native species.
Or it could be two poisoning of the environment results with the air and the water being both poisoned.

4. Species displacement- nuisance or harmful species driven from its normal habitat into urband or other habitat.

5. Invasive harmful species. can be native or non native. Native species from another part of the planet introduced by accident or otherwise to a bio-zone where it has no natural predators and reak's havoc on the ecology- ie damages the environment killing plants, killing vulnerable species, spoiling the environment-example: waterways choked with plant diminishing their value as scenery, tourist actraction, or safe water supply

10. Roll twice and add effects.

Still need a # 6, 7, 8, 9 or reduce the list to a d6 table. could also make #9 a Roll twice entry as well.

and maybe #8 can be double the contributing factors which will leave us with 2 more effects to come up with.
