Idea here is to post all history/timeline material and its source here and when it appears we have all that's available we'll compile it into a time line though I suspect that it will be tough to make it a strick time line and might have to fudge it a little.

EDIT: my plan here is to comb all Canon matetial, except Zebs, and list page and source locations here for all society and history information. I'll then photocopy/ print each page. Next will be review, collation, and justification of all data. Then I'll post a doc in the documents section and give peeps a chance to criticize or critique it.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Yep, I think it will be important to compile all the available data and see if it will come together as a time line. Truthfully, though, I think it will look like an essay not so much like the date heavy Zebs T line.

Please do sound off if you see that I miss important historical data in a source. It's entirely possible that this could happen.

History

Near the center of a great spiral galaxy, where stars are much closer together than Earth's sun and its neighbors, a Human race developed. They were not identical to the Humans of Earth, but they were not very different, either. When these Humans discovered that waves of subspace pi-tachyon particles could cross interstellar space faster than light, they realized they had found a link to the star. A radio message that would have taken years to travel between stars could be sent with subspace communicators in months or even weeks. The Humans started broadcasting news of themselves to the neighboring stars, and found they were not alone.

The Humans made contact with an inventive race of insect like creatures called Vrusk, who had developed limited space travel decades earlier. One of the Vrusks' mining colonies had already contacted another race, the shape changing Dralasites. The two races had been exchanging information for several years. The Vrusk and Dralasites were pleased to learn of another race. They sent a wealth of scientific information to the Humans. Using this new knowledge, the industrious Humans quickly developed interstellar spaceships.

The three races met in a large area of space known as the Frontier. There they also discovered the Yazirians, a race of tall, maned humanoids. Soon, settled worlds in the Frontier became melting pots for the four race, with dazzling mixtures of architecture and alien cultures.

To supply the needs of these worlds, the first interstellar company, the Pan-Galactic Corporation, was formed. It developed interests everywhere, from scientific research to farming to spaceship building. PGC even created its own language, Pan-Galactic, which soon became the most common language of all races on the Frontier worlds. Many large companies which started later were modeled on PGC but none approach the size or power of the Pan-Galactic Corporation.

Then, the Sathar appeared. No one knows where they came from or why. They attacked and destroyed lonely systems on the edges of explored space, moving slowly inward. Survivors described Sathars as wormlike creatures 3 to 4 meters long. That was all that was known about them, because they would rather kill themselves than be captured. As the danger increased, the Humans, Dralasites, Vrusk, and Yazirians formed the United Planetary Federation (UPF) to defend their worlds. The mysterious Sathar were forced back, but before long they returned in a more sinister form. The Sathar had learned that they could not beat the UPF in battle. Instead, they began hiring Yazirian, Human, Dralasite and Vrusk agents to sabotage interstellar trade and interfere with local governments. The UPF created the Star Law Rangers, and interstellar police force, to track the Sathar's agents from planet to planet and fight them on their own terms. But despite the efforts of the Rangers, the sly Sathar agents have become the most dangerous threat ever to face the United Planetary Federation and the frontier corporations.

Basic Games back cover glossary:

Frontier: The Star systems where the dralasites, vrusk, humans, and Yazirians met. It contains many new colonies and unexplored worlds.

Pan Galactic Corporation: The oldest and largest interstellar company. PGC is one of the most powerful organizations in the Frontier.

Sathar: A race of aggressive worm like creatures that have attacked and destroyed Frontier outpost and colonies. Very little is known about them as no sathar has ever been captured alive.

Star Law Rangers: A branch of the UPF that functions as an interstellar police force. It concentrates on finding sathar agents but also fights space pirates and interstellar crimals.

United Planetary Federation: A loose alliance formed byetween many planetary governments after the first Sathar attacks. The UPF is not an interstellar government, it is a defense organization devoted to protecting member planets from sathar take over and destruction. The UPF has its own police force, the Star Law Rangers. The Rangers track down and capture undercover sathar agents. However, their authority is not recognized on all planets.

At Basic History for humans all refs have some choices to make in relevence to the story line...
Fact #1 Humans come from someplace close to center of the galaxy.
Questions a ref should consider which direction or where is the Frontier in relation to center?
Options: Near the center, far from the center

SFKH0 notes: Clarion settled centuries past, Humans expnaded from the direction of Thesus. Current ruling family has been in power for 400 years, but based on name #s they may not have been the only ruling family and then that could easily push the date of colonization or at least the establishment of the colony in the thousands of years, also Clarion is very populated if you look: 12 major cities with populations measured in the tens of millions.

So this means you can have Humans come from Thesus, come from outside the Frontier and colonize Thesus first, come from outside the Frontier skip Thesus colonize Clarion first then go to Thesus. All would be valid options.

thespiritcoyote bugged the heck out of WotC to find out info as well: The original Star Frontier races Homeworlds where suppose to be as far from the Frontier as Earth (25,000 to 28,000 lightyears) or even further. The expectation was that physical contact would not be viable for nearly 500 years after the colonists of the Three Races met, and possibly not viable for regular traffic for another 500 years after that. Also originally it was concieved that 2 Human colony ships where sent to the Frontier similiar to but not the MA1 ship, so that would be around 1.5 to 2 million people per ship traveling at about 26% the speed of light, one ship got lost and never showed up. Note this info is not canon.

Now if you think about it the humans could be moving in the opposite direction of RL Earth which would be from the arm inward toward the center but from the center to an arm.

Just some thoughts.

These are things to think about when creating a timeline.

The words "near the center of a spiral Galaxy" do not necessitate that humanity traveled to the frontier. Theseus could have been their home system. Terledrom for the vrusk, Dramune for the dralasites, and Araks/Hentz for the yazirians. There would have been no Star Exodus. Nothing in Basic Game rule book's history requires lost home worlds in any way shape or form. The issue of lost home worlds was created by language in Zebs. The language doesnt postscribe lost home worlds either. And there is so much inertia and fan created material on the yazirian Star Exodus I would just keep that story line.

True no one needs to be lost... the language is such the Frontier could include or not include the HWs.

So Dramune can't be home world for Drals. Where then did the vrusk mining company discover the dralasites? The 2nd inhabitable planet in the Fromeltar system or the system to the right of Fromeltar, Zik-Kit? Which has a mining economy and is controlled by Terledrom? Dralasites manage to settle on Terledrom, Groth and Dramune.

@ Tchklinxa yeah that looks like a good break down of the basic game info.

One thing though I really feel like the PF side of the time line should have centuries of time.

I think we should produce a CNZ Clean time line: Canon No Zebs and clean means no embellishing with explanation s of home worlds or inclusion if dragon/Ares/Polyhedron material.

CNZ 2.0 which would at the very least would include the Dragon/Ares/Polyhedron natetial.

CNZ 3.0 would include home world material, Star Exodus and fan grown yaz material and potentially some limited Zebs material like the MSO and maybe elements of the Zebs time line involving the mechanons.

All three would be separate docs in the documents section of the timeline project. Or at least CNZ Clean & CNZ 2.0   Any other embellished can be done by individual gamers and named in this way: CNZ 3jedion or CNZ by jedion people can simply use what appeals to them.

We should source the info... that way anyone reading it can know the source for each entry. The different documents (CNZ 2,0, CNZ 3.0) is a good idea.

Here's some examples of what I mean, I have found this idea useful as I can then refer to the original source document as I tweak away at the history of the 'Verse according to me, so I think if we document the source for each item then Refs would find that helpful:

302 PF Dramune System first colonized by the Dralasites, whose race expanded into the Frontier from the direction of Fromeltar. After several centuries differences began to separate the two societies, creating one of the most bitter and long-standing conflicts in the Frontier. (SFKH1 Dramune Run)

?:  Pale (red planet),  Pan-Galactic Corporation colonizes New Pale (green planet), capital city is Truane City built on Triad’s city plan.  (Based on Endless Quest Book #17 Captive Planet, by  Morris Simon)

Here is an Example that is from my timeline that uses Zebs info and Fan ideas:

155 PF: Gruna Garu system discovered by Yazirians. (Zebulon’s Guide to Frontier Space) Wildcat mining operation under the aegis of the Yazirian government was established. (Star Frontiersman 06, Gruna-Garu System) Gorlian race discovered. (A Gorlian Thug? Gorlians, Star Frontiersman 08)

The idea is that as I compile the information I can track origin of info and make notes if I changed something to meet my needs. For Example:

302 PF: Fromeltar system colonized by Dralasites. (based on Zebulon’s Guide to Frontier Space, but I changed discovered to colonize) The Nagana race discovered on Terledrom’s moon Leen, colonizied by Dralasites. (Star Frontiersman 01, Star Frontiers Character Races Nagana) Vrusk co-colonize Terledrom with Dralasites. (House)

Now I know we are striping Zeb ideas out but I think though this is a bit OCD it will pay off as we compile all non-Zeb source canon info.

It appears to me as well Fromeltar can be called the Dralasite Homeworld as it is implied by the module, Zit-Kit makes total sense to be said Vrusk minning colony being refered to. I would suggest listing such deductions as(Implied by X Source).

Not sure if this module should be included but Trouble with Janus has:
Recon-Development and Exploration Council which was part of a centralized bureaucracy, something called the Laterial Federation which replaced the Centralization, the Free Trade Federation seems to have replaced the Laterial Federation. Also Federation Board of Inquiry, Multi-Cap, Federation Covenant rules mentioned... Though Janus is a bit far flung it does give some ideas that are not Zeb that is for sure.

the ship Gullwind was commissioned 1/1/41 the report is 9/15/61 so the ship is around 20 years old which gives us tech level ideas about FY 41.

The ship's log also shows what colonies must exist by 61 FY: Inner & Outer/Dramune, Hargut/ Gruna G., Yast/Athor, Ken'zah Kit/K'aken Kar, Lossend/Timeon, Triad/Cassidine, Minotaur/Theseus, Kdikit?Madderly,& Clarion/White L. are all places listed in the log so all had to be colonizied before 61 FY.

In rereading the system report: Inner & Outer Reach appear to have gotten along for several hundred years, but then Inner's economy went south as it's mines where depleted, this resulted in war on Outer (kingdoms forming until we get to 61 FY when there is the two powers of Outer) and with Inner.

Inner at 61 FY is approaching a population of 1/2 billion, mixed demographics.
Outer's population is 20 million.

I just did the math for Alcazzar and it actually works out to match Zeb's date. I am not sure how to use the log yet but it a least confirms what I have suspected in my timeline pokes that TSR had most modules set in the 60's FY time. So here is some White Light data added and Alcazzar.

If we add data form Quest books Captive Planet must occur after Star Law exist, Pan-Gal knows tho route (so route well established).

What I am thinking is try and find as many canon dates or figure the dates out by info in the source and then sequence the more vague info around the known dates. This is probably as close as we can get with out arbitrarily setting dates.

10/21/61 FY Alcazzar in the Rhianna System discovered by the Cassidine Development Corporation. Mining begins immediately. (SF4 Mission to Alcazzar, note the module states 12/21/61 but this must be incorrect as GST has only 10 months so it has been correct to reflect GST).

After year 61: Streel attacks CDC mining operation on Alcazzar, start of module. Shortly after CDC discovers planet mining site pass into winter, winter is 4000 GST hours, transitional periods are 1000 GST hours, summer is 4000 GST. CDC delays operations for winter, builds and starts mining in summer, suspends for winter, stars again next summer than all communication ceases.  200 GST days + 50 days transition + 200 days + 50 + 200 + 50 + 40 = 790 days 790/400 = 1 year 9 months 30 days so I would probably assume 63 FY for the Alcazzar module. (SF4 Mission to Alcazzar)

I forgot about the map in Dramune Run... It shows the following systems to be maped so I think we can assume all colonized by 61 FY:

Gauna Garu, Araks, Athor, Scree Fron, Zebulon, Truane's Star, Dixon's Star, Cassidine, Prenglar, White Light, Theseus, Timeon, Dramune, Madderly's Star, K'tsa-Kar, K'aken-Kar, Kizk-Kar and Fromeltar.

Definitely yes to citing sources to all the data.

Interesting thought.  What if Fromeltar is the home system to both the Vrusk and the Dralasites, one on each world.  Groth for the Drals and Terledrom for the Vrusk (I know it's not a Vrusk looking name).  The basic history only says that the Vrusk had limited spaceflight.  We have limited spaceflight here on Earth today.  It doesn't actually mention interstellar travel, just spaceflight.  (It's kind of implied by the fact that sharing tech allowed humans to develope interstellar travel but it's not explicit).  So that mining colony may have just been to another planet in the same system where they discovered the Drals.

The simple answer on Fromeltar & Terledrom not sounding vrusk is that they're dral. If the dral home planet is Groth then they naturally use their words for these bodies. Only vrusk can pronounce vrusk names. The vrusk names we do have are Pan Gan approximations for non vrusk speakers.

The lead linguist developing Pan Gal, a dral, simply pandered to its own bias when it came to assigning these names.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

That is all doable...

On options where we have mor than one implied possability should we present both for example: Implied possability A Dralasites and Vrusk evolved in same system on different planets, possibilty B Vrusk evolved on planet X, Dralasites on planet Y in sifferent systems?

How can the entire map be called the frontier if the home worlds are on the map?  I keep po dering the phrase, meet on the frontier".

I know that is the other problematic line...

Well we could just acknowledge the two points a view with a note in the timeline, that some refes place the Home Worlds in the Frontier, why others place them outside.

I think the base timeline will have a ton of holes and that is fine.  We present it as the time line of events from the modules and rule books.  So what if many planets are not even mentioned.  This will give the referees a good picture of what is documented and let them go from there.  This base line trunk can then have as many branches as we wish.

44 FY: A human merchant named Seccitte Zebulon; who regularly made shipments to the Truane’s Star system; ship accidentally misjumped when leaving that system, and Zebulon star system is discovered. Upon return to Pale, Seccitte sells the astrogational information to the government of Pale. The Truane’s Star system was divided at the time. (The Volturnus Connection Building background for Volturnus campaign by Stephen Bonario)

45 FY, Pale’s government created a Planetary Research and Development division to open up the Zebulon Star Route. Pale launched a deep-space probe to explore the system. The probe

reported astrophysical data on the system and its only habitable planet (now called Volturnus). It was discovered that great mineral wealth existed on Volturnus, Pale became eager to

colonize the planet. The Research division began taking

development bids. The contract to develop Volturnus was awarded to a healthy company called MINER (Mining for Industrial use of Natural Earth Resources). Plans and negotiations went on for a year, and MINER planned to begin settlement of Volturnus in early F.Y. 47. (The Volturnus Connection Building background for Volturnus campaign by Stephen Bonario)

47 FY: Two calamities struck the Pale/MINER colonization project of Volturnus at this time, causing the whole thing to fall through. First, New Pale began to receive non-human colonists from Pale. A majority of humans on New Pale were HUSPs (a slang term for persons believing in a racist political philosophy called Human Superiority). The HUSPs preferred this racially isolated planet and didn’t want it contaminated. Pale uses military force to bully the weaker government into allowing other races to settle there. Pale saw this as a way to increase food production on New Pale and perhaps drive food costs down. Several months later, the HUSPs banded together and began terrorizing the new colonists, also attacking Pale’s colonial protection forces. New Pale thus declared itself to be in a state of war with Pale. Pale-New Pale War begins. Pale focuses on the direct defense of its critical food supply source. Money from the Planetary Research division was diverted to this cause because it was felt profits from Volturnus operations would not be realized fast enough to help the war effort. Pale also believed that, if it could gain full control of New Pale, it could become a much more powerful stellar government. (The Volturnus Connection Building background for Volturnus campaign by Stephen Bonario)

47 FY: The kidnapping of the head of MINER, a Vrusk, who was later reported killed when the demanded ransom was not paid. His body was never recovered, and his will called for the liquidation of MINER, with all monies then deposited into a private bank account. It was widely believed that a rival companywas responsible for his death. (The Volturnus Connection Building background for Volturnus campaign by Stephen Bonario)

This was a turning point for

Volturnus. It gave the Eorna another

twenty years to fulfill their Great Mission,

but it also brought the Star Devil to

Volturnus.

47 FY: The former head of MINER secretly retained all the classified information on Volturnus and the Zebulon star system. He had rigged his kidnapping and death, then assumed a new identity as the Star Devil. His initial intent was to set up an illegal mining operation on Volturnus before the government

of Pale could do so. To help realize his plans, he drew on the private bank account his will had set up. But as time went on, he instead became involved in pirating operations. (The Volturnus Connection Building background for Volturnus campaign by Stephen Bonario)

The war on New Pale consisted of a series of HUSP-led terrorist attacks on food service shipments to Pale. Pale was forced to continue to spend money on ensuring its food supply remained

secure. This became difficult in the early 50s because Pale had an overabundance of resources that were also low in demand. It suffered an economic depression, and many Pale-based mining companies went out of business. One mid-sized corporation, based in Point True, Pale’s capitol, began to acquire these small companies hoping to gain a planet-wide monopoly. The corporation was Streel.

53 FY: Streel completely controlled all mining operations on Pale.

54-63 FY: Aware of this, the Star Devil approached the Pan-Galactic Corporation and worked out an agreement with it. The Star Devil, using bases in the Gruna Goru, Prenglar, and Dixon.s Star systems, ran weapons shipments from Wartech Corporation to the HUSPs on New Pale. Pan-Galactic financed the cost of the weapons, while the Star Devil furnished the ships. Gun-running proved profitable for both PGC and the Star Devil, allowing the latter to become a potent force. The Star Devil was able to develop Volturnus before Trauna’s Star could do it, while keeping Streel busy investing money in the war effort instead of in business projects like PGC did.  The Star Devil expanded his pirate bases to the Araks, Athor, and Scree Fron star systems.

63 FY Star Devil began putting his Volturnus mining plans into operation. PGC begins buying the ore (illegally) from Star Devil.

63 FY: The end of the Pale-New Pale war. Streel struggled through those nine years of war, yet continued to grow into

a larger corporation despite it. In F.Y. 63, in cooperation with the Pale Militia, Streel made an effort to end the war by pouring millions into the militia’s coffers. Confronted by an army of far superior quantity and quality, the HUSPs were soon crushed out of existence, despite the best efforts of PGC and the Star Devil to save them.

New Pale became a stabilized planet. Its new government then joined Pale’s, and the two began united rulership of the Truane’s

Star system.

64 FY, Streel became aware of the long-deserted Zebulon colonization attempt. It urged the new government to develop the system claimed twenty years ago. Streel even helped finance a new Planetary Research division. The division sent an exploratory team three and a half months (140 days) into F.Y. 64.

65 FY: Nine months (360 days) later, a second team was assembled the player characters. Beginning of Voluturnus Modules.

Like iggy, I often think the home worlds are "off the map" but then that raises the question of why no interaction with said homeworlds which has be hashed over many times.  But then again, it could be called the Frontier as in a shortened form a "New Frontier" which is what they referred to it as back in the early days of interstellar travel.  Before they had been confined to a single system but with the discovery of Void jumping a new frontier was opened as they explored the systems around them.  Over time it wasn't new any more but the Frontier name just stuck around.

Personally, I like the Vrusk and Dralisites originating in the Frontier (or maybe the Drals coming from a crash landed colony ship as has been suggested somewhere).  But both having only limited STL space travel.  Contact made with humans and the exchange of information sparks the development of FTL capabilities in human research and they then head out to meet these new contacts.  And the Yazirians arrive fleeing a destroyed/dying homeworld.  They arrive in the Frontier area in STL ships before the meetup of the other three and are discovered as the other three races continue to explore.  That only leaves the question of why no contact with the human home world but humans are so violent that you can use a war (cliche I know) to be the cause.
