Beyond the Frontier, star nations and independent worlds

What, if any, independent planets and/or interstellar governments exist in your Star Frontiers universe and outside the Frontier Sector?

Do you use the Rim, whether the original Zeb's version or something altered?

Looking at the books for hints:

It seems as if the Sathar must come from someplace. It could be that they mostly live in large deep space craft, and only control a few settled worlds.
Or maybe they have a big empire with lots of planets.

I think the Star Devil pirates originated someplace beyond the Frontier, yeah? I'd better look that up.

If one goes with the AD set up, then the Core Four home worlds lie someplace outside the Frontier. The Yazirians might be from someplace close. Or maybe not.
I would definitely go with the home worlds existing outside the Frontier.
In contrast to AD, though, I assume the Humans originated on Earth.

They can be in adjacent regions of space.
That keeps the Frontier from becoming too crowded and developed for my purposes, but allows me to use the modules and the new planets pretty much as is or with only minor alterations.

YMMV

Except the Dark Side module mentioned that Kraatar could be accessed from White Light. Zebs has it 5 light years from Thesus with a marked star route. So that should be OK to use.

I do understand the "overcrowding" issue and that optional planets are... optional.

It could lie outside the Frontier Sector and still be accessible from White Light.

Just use a route that leads off the map.

The map is 2D but only shows approximate distances and relationships, not 3D space.

Is the Frontier Sector a flattened box shape , a sphere, or what?

But, sure, I imagine the designer's intent was to add it ( the new world) to the Frontier. I think you are right on that count.

Zeb's Guide is something I ignore as a complete product, but may mine it for useful bits.
I do like some of the new gear, and I don't think some of the skills may be adaptable to what I prefer: the system from AD.

From the Starplay Holo-Movie: The Wrath of Hun

The UPFS Energetic tumbles away in edge of Xagag Nebula in the Dramune system after suffering yet another strike from the Sathar frigate's lasers.

"This nebula is really affecting our sensors," said Captain Smirk, the Human.

"Yes, but I've analyzed their attack," replied Science Officer Spoor Kah. The Dralasite turned to him, held in place to his acceleration chair by straps. "It seems they are using two dimensional thinking."

"Helmsman, all stop," Smirk ordered.

"All, stop. Aye, aye, sir."

"Z-minus 10,000 meters. Prepare to fire the torpedoes," the captain ordered.

From the camera's angle, the Frontier destroyer seemed to descend rather than continue forward. Moments later, after the Sathar warship passed "overhead," the Energetic sprung back above the mists...

Oh yeah. I remember that Traveler 2300 -- later renamed 2300 A.D. -- had this wonderful map where they tried to give a 3D sense to the different star systems. I think that Zeb Cook also wrote an article about how one could do that... I just a little too lazy or don't have the time/computer skills to recreate a descent looking Frontier map that could be 3d.

But yes, take from Zebs what is useful and burn the rest.

A Vrusk would have made for a better Spock analogue.  A Dralasite would make a better McCoy. :D

I made a great 3D star map of the frontier in Celestia.  I tried to make a good screen capture video to post to YouTube once but the software I downloaded didn't work good.  Can anyone recommend good free screen video capture software  to post to YouTube?

Just use your computer's "print screen" program then take it into Paint or whatever you use and crop it.

It's a classic method that still works better than anything offered today. It's also good for bypassing websites that deny right clicking for image downloads etc.

No, I can do screen shots.  I want to record my screen into a video to show movement through my 3D frontier.

I just realized that iggy...sorry, can't help you there.  I can't even find a video downloader that doesn't leave vids full of artifacts and pixellation.

Now that would be good! That is having a 3d star map as opposed to not getting it to download.

On a completely different subject, where did I see that there were 10 colonization ships in Star Frontier?  And if so, we know of 4 ships.  What happen to the rest would be a nice plot hook as well...

The idea of lost colonies always pops into my mind when I see the picture on page 52 of the expanded rule book where the PGC salesman is selling trinkets to hunter gather humans.

Ah, the high tech salt & pepper shakers, as is evident by the second guy who made the mistake of tearing the lid off his pepper shaker and inadvertently snorting said contents in the process.

One of my fave comical pieces in the rule books. Or at least my interpretation made it comical. Foot in mouth

I am moving toward incorporating SF's Star Map into SE's 3-D map, yes TSR had a 3-D map before SF. But first I am am introgating timelines GW/SE & SF so I am properly insane before the maps are combined.

Under Projects in "Joe's Half-Baked Ideas" I have added some statistics for the Pan-Gal system and have started a system brief for Devco.

Please jump over and add any comments/critiques. Especially if anyone has suggestions for what a good corporate militia fleet might look like to defend a corporate system.

Long before I ever owned a Zeb's Guide (I got AD + KH at age 12 and didn't get a Zeb's until I was 21), I created an extended Frontier Sector map that is 6x the size of the Frontier.  It is 6 sheets of quad-rule graph paper (3 high, 2 wide, each sheet landscape oriented) with the Frontier centered on the middle of the bottom 4 sheets.  I put a Sathar controlled region of space, roughly the size of the Frontier in the upper 2 sheets and had routes connecting them to the Frontier consistent with the jump points in the SWII game in KH.  I've always intended to tweak that to match the Zeb's Guide map but have never really done so (mainly becuase I haven't needed to).  It was always intended for an exploration campaign that corresponded to the SWII that I've never had a chance to run.

I too don't use the plague worlds or the mega-corp worlds although I don't have a problem with the idea of the megacorp worlds, I've just never really used the Zeb's Guide map so they haven't been a part of my campaigns.

It might be interesting to create an "expanded Frontier" map sometime. After much pondering, I do like Iggy's idea of creating some kind of 3d map so you can create star routes to systems that are above and below the "Prenglar plane of the eclyptic." That way, the Frontier doesn't appear so settled, but rather is a small slice of small section of the galaxy.

I could put the Celestia map zip file as a download here on SF.US (if I haven't done it already, I forget things now days) and then make all the html links go to SF.US or SF.info.  That way everyone could be working on the 3D map and the html pages that tell about the worlds.

Here is my latest update of work done on my frontier map in Celestia.  https://youtu.be/_lmDYBUxIFk

Also, I have zipped up the files for the frontier in Celestia as Frontier 20161011.zip and tried to put them in the Port Loren Lublic Library downloads.  I think the upload happened but I don't yet see them in the library downloads.

@TerlObar, please check if my upload of Frontier 20161011.zip worked.

Your welcome.   I liked your S'sessu analysis here in the forums an wanted to add their worlds to the Celestia map.  That is why I asked in the discussion threads about a map.  What we got in the Frontier Explorer article map is great and with bonus points pulling in some Star Frontiersman races with home worlds.  Thanks for the great work.
