jedion357 August 6, 2015 - 12:24pm | In order to simplify the setting in the Sol Frontiers project I 'D like to write in a cataclysm that lets us take present real world nations out of the picture and allows for new nations on the Moon or Mars to be more dominant in the setting. There seems to be a lot of information on the net for what happens if an asteroid strikes. I'd go with asteroid or comet but would include some other stuff like limited nukes like north Korea initiates war believing the need to go south to escape coming ice age. US aegis systems knock down most Korean missiles but one gets through and takes out San Fransisco. Toss in resulting world wide fires and a good old fashioned mega volcano eruption to plunge earth into a new job ce age. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 6, 2015 - 12:28pm | For new new nations: Russian troops go south and you get new Russian republics in khurdistan and Persia which are part of althe southern Russian republics in the United Russian Rebuplics URR. Texas proclaims itself a republic again in the aftermath of a decimated US floundering from the crumpling destination of coastal areas. Tchklinxa August 8, 2015 - 5:46am | I think Idaho would also split from the union along with several other states. CA might divide into two states, everyone has been threatening that for years especially if SF is out of the picture. Nor CA might opt to join Nevada or OR as well. That has come up before also. rattraveller August 9, 2015 - 11:00pm | Ah Jed Texas has a coast line and is pretty flat so if large portions will also flood. Just a note to think about. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 August 10, 2015 - 7:51am | I wonder how much the Gulf will be affected with an Atlantic strike. Seams like Florida would absorb a lot. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller August 10, 2015 - 5:16pm | Florida floats on a bed of water. Right now they have alot of sinkhole problems due to over use of that water. BUT flooding from the sea will not solve that problem. Rockbeds are not empty cups that can just be filled up. They have absorbtion rates which can take centuries. (Just look at California's water problems) You could end up with Florida flooding its coast lines and the middle part of the state collasping in on itself. Which would eventually solve the sinkhole problem but the current ecosystem would be destroyed. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
TerlObar August 11, 2015 - 2:54pm | A tsunami hitting the east coast from a big asteroid/comet strike in the Atlantic would very likely scour Florida clean. The highest point in the state is one 345 feet above sea level. A good km high tsunami wave may be able to wash completely over the state and into the Gulf of Mexico. I don't know if it would actually make it all the way across the state but it's possible. I've never done tsunami wave physics. Ad Astra Per Ardua!
