Stibbons May 22, 2015 - 7:49am | Just acquired my first hardcopy Star Frontiers product, a "Blue Box" original set, box a bit battered (but repairable) and all components intact save the dice and crayons (and possibly a few counters). Gods though, ebay is a chore, no matey, listing all the contents present when you don't list all the original content and don't mention which bits are missing is not ok when the person buying it does not automatically know what should be in the box to begin with. Fortunately ebay agree with us, still a pain though, thought I'd got a decent "Alpha Dawn" set for a very reasonable price. Next up, Knight Hawks, though I might have to use my American sister-in-law to assist with that. Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
Stibbons September 19, 2015 - 11:43am | Woo, that was quick, arrived Friday. As advertised, in perfect condition, especially the screen, no fading on that at all. They were indeed still wrapped, but not the original cellophane I think, they'd been re-shrink wrapped quite recently but I don't have any complaints. The guy had multiple copies of these as well, two "Bugs in the System" and four Referee Screens (now reduced by one each of course). Maybe it was some old game stock which he managed to acquire. Here's his page anyway- http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/pokmar/m.html?item=221878412035&hash=item33a8fbe303&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
Shadow Shack September 21, 2015 - 12:12am | Have fun with the Omicron game. I played the hell out fo that with numerous self-written scenarios to challenge/kill the hapless eight pre-gens. |
Stibbons October 7, 2015 - 3:09am | It carries on, thanks to TerlObar I now have the two "Volturnus" modules. In the meantime I also picked up "Sundown on Starmist" and a completely unused set of Character Record Sheets. Also picked up all the "Choose your own adventure books" for about a penny each (plus postage), just waiting for the last one to arrive. One useful trick is to use this used books search site- http://www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/ Not only will it find things that are not on Amazon, but it will also find those items that have not been put on the main Amazon page for this item but have their own page by mistake. Got my Character Record Sheets that way. Anyway, onward to Alcazzar! Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
Stibbons October 20, 2015 - 2:48am | Huzzah! "Mission to Alcazzar" just arrived and I got "Face of the Enemy" yesterday. It is worth checking both amazon.co.uk and amazon.com I've found, not everything gets on to both and some USA sellers are quite happy to ship international. Particularly pleased I've got Alcazzar, that trog across a planetary surface in Explorers is something along the lines I'm working on for something else. Anyway, "Dark Side of the Moon", "War Machine" and "Zebulon" remain. The latter is probably the easiest to get, but actually the one I'm least bothered about, the other two however... they're a tad scarce. I can get them but I'm going to have to use my American connections. Fortunately my Brother is heading over to NY in November to see his wife (long story) so will be able to bring stuff back (might even get them as Christmas presents). Of course, I do realise that I'm talking to people who have everything already. Twice over in some cases. Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
Tchklinxa October 20, 2015 - 4:21am | I have a list to collect... lol. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Stibbons November 12, 2015 - 5:52am | The end is nigh! Thanks to TerlObar's sharp eyes I got "The War Machine" on ebay for a mere $6.90 (plus twice that in postage from the USofA, but seeing what it was selling for on Amazon that's peanuts) and keeping an eye on that secondhand books site I saw a mint copy of "Dark Side of the Moon" for under $20 (plus about $13 postage, but again, silly money otherwise). Both now arrived, both are in excellent condition and both were sealed. The wrap on "TWM" was not original I think, old but no more than a decade so. The cellophane on "DSotM" however was brittle and practically shattered under my hands as I removed it, an unopened unused copy, how did this escape I wonder, where has it lain undisturbed for all this time, until the stars were right... No, hang on, wrong game. Only Zebulon to go now and, as I said, I can live without it. Perhaps Christmas for that one. Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
Tchklinxa November 12, 2015 - 5:46am | Score! "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
TerlObar November 12, 2015 - 9:15pm | Yes, that was a sweet deal on The War Machine, even with the shipping cost. Zeb's Guide is another hard one, especially to find one with the map and extra especially if you want the map still attached. My second copy has the map but it's not attached. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Tchklinxa November 14, 2015 - 6:51am | Right now I am just using a lot of PDFS but honestly I am a paper/book person. I got a list of things I need to start collecting again. Just have to do a little at a time... :) Oh to have a bigger wallet. LOL. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack November 15, 2015 - 2:03pm | Time to get some classic D&D. At least that was what I was concentrating on for a while...I pretty much acquired everything I wanted except for the ungodly priced B10 module. |
jedion357 November 22, 2015 - 4:41pm | B10 is awesome but to get it with the all the card stock covers and the die cut counters is tough. Incomplete copies go for a pretty gold piece let me tell you. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack November 25, 2015 - 6:45am | Yeah it's right up there with the orange Jean Wells B3. Having seen the PDF of the orange B3 I don't see the appeal, I prefer the Modvay re-edit green copy I've had since 1980-something. But I can see why the orange B3 commands high prices...it was a limited print run followed by a recall. B10 was just a regular print run module and there are far too many copies available to justify their high prices. |
Stibbons April 2, 2016 - 3:51pm | The end is in sight. A copy of Zebulon's Guide finally appeared on Amazon with a not too silly price tag (and I had birthday money to spend). Should have the star map still attached, if not the seller is happy for a refund and return. Sorry not been on here very much, work has been hectic. Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |

Stibbons April 19, 2016 - 11:51am | And so it ends, Zebulon's Guide has arrived, bit marked in places but star map present (if loose) and frankly I'm still lucky to get it as cheap as I did. I did consider the miniatures, but I doubt I'll bother there, not that much of a completist. I find Zebulon's useful for the background and the new aliens, but I'm probably going to retrofit it to the old rule set to get any use out of it. Still the final major component. Did manage to pick up a another copy of Alpha Dawn from Oxfam the other day, most of the counters still unpunched and just one missing. Hopefully now I shall be inspired to get on with the Landstrider Planetary Exploration System I'm working on and get it completed and hopefully submitted as a future magazine article. Hopefully now I shall be inspired to get on with the Landstrider Planetary Exploration System I'm working on and get it completed and hopefully submitted as a future magazine article. Yes, Zebs is useful, though it is better to retrofit it to some of the Alpha Dawn rules. I've done that a bit after discovering others did that (see some of the posting under the Projects tab). I think I'm using a home variant of the Zebs 2000 rules. No column shifts and if the rules call for one, it's a +10/-10 (or more) percent modifier on dice rolls. The timeline is somewhat useful, though very flawed (again see comments from others elsewhere, though you probably know that). The Landstrider Planetary Exploration System? Sounds like a catchy name. Shadow Shack April 21, 2016 - 5:10pm | Yes, Zebs is useful, I recently discovered a use for Zeb's Guide: |
