I could have been a gun enthusiast except for the fact I live in Boston and simply decided not to bother.

I wish I had the money and a willing wife to have a gun collection.

As it is, I only own a crappy Makarov 9mm (which uses non-standard 9x18 rounds).  It is stored with one of those cable locks in it... so when the intruder come sin the house... I'm not going to be able to ready it up.

SIGH....

!!!

Crappy Makarov? The Mak is a truly amazing, simply constructed weapon.  Unless you got one of the ones that was rode hard and put away wet, they'll shoot forever.  My only downfall for the Mak is that little sharp thing on the side of the magazine. I can't tell you how many times I cut myself on that.

Sorry about Boston and your rights. I mean, they should ban explosives. I'm sure it'd keep large crowds safe if there were only a law in place...

You can keep weapons in boston but its a lot of effort to do it legally, you really and truelly have to be a gun enthusiast to do it. That also goes for bows- you have to get a permit from the police.

Naturally, enough the gangs and criminals dont do it legally and when there is yet another shooting of some teen by another gang member there is yet another call for more laws limiting guns.

Typically, the father you get from Boston in MA the more relaxed things are. Though you do get towns like Sharon or Dracut, MA where the local sherrif/chief of police is very repressive of private ownership of firearms.

Back in the 90's the town of Sharon was doing everything it could to outlaw hunting with in the town borders. I briefly worked with a man who lived in Dracut and was bemoaning the fact that Dract had passed 40 ordinances concerning firearms in one year back in the late 90's (he was a hunter).

The magazines are notorious for malfunction. You load them and then wind up the spring compression, and therein lies the common issue. I had it repaired once while the company was still in business, and have been looking for a smith that will take on the job now that they aren't in business.

Calicos have been used in many SciFi flicks, most notably Spaceballs, Running Man, Total Recall (original), and one of the RoboCop sequels (I forget if it was 2 or 3). I'm sure there are others but those are the ones I distinctly recall seeing them in.

Thanks.

I'm quite shocked in this day and age, all things considered, that they are selling a 100r magazine for $125. I paid almost that much to repiar my existing one ten years ago!

Tec-9

Automag III

M-1 Carbine

Winchester model 1300

Remington 22 cal. rifle.

The tec-9 was a bought on a whim.  M-1 and automag use .30 cal carbine ammo.  Saves on cost.  Model 1300 and .22 cal were inherited from my late brother.

My last whim purchase I made was an old comic for $3.99, a 1980's Judge Dredd not perfect condition, so I could read it... without "your ruining it's value" conversation. Glad I got it, had a repent of the first episode if JD in it & the gun detailed. Very cool score for me to enjoy.

I don't have time or & to go target shooting anymore.I may get the bow & arrows out this summer though and wander down to the college's range. The indoor range is gone, I used to have fun taking my longbow down there, be told by all the guys with scopes, laser sighters and compound pulley bows it was impossible to hit anything with a longbow, watch them not even hit the target half the time being all more power, and then I would sink all bull's eyes.Foot in mouth Power is useless if you can't hit your target.

Except the TEC-9 didn't cost hundreds of dollars back in the day. Unless, of course, you waited until after the hi-cap bans to go into effect and then the prices soared.

The same thing happened to the Calicos too. Believe me, I have room to speak on this issue of buying on a whim...that one was brand new under $200 out the door at a swap meet. Once the 15+ round mags were banned, the prices shot up. Wink

I believe tec-9 cost just around $150 when I bought it.  The same cost as the M-1 and Winchester Model-1300 (it had just a pistol grip).  Now the Automag set me back $400 and I made like five payments.  Like Shadow said, the assualt rifle band went into effect and prices jumped $100 to $200 dollars on just a shotgun alone.  Crud, the 30 round mags for that weapon went from being $15 to $50 dollars over night.   That and it had a bad rep for being a gang banger weapon,

Yes it is all part of the plan... make everything too damn expensive, that way only the rich can have it, because being richy pants means their better people than you or I. I was told this as a child: people who have more $ are just genetically better, more moral, more ethical and so on, not criminals... total pack of delusional lies of course, their have been plenty of people with $ who have done bad things or from the right income bracket. But that is what some people teach their children, what some people use as an excuse to harm others too including children. I have met all sorts so I can safely say one's pocket book is not a good judge of character, but every gun control person believes it. The firearm peddlers are making $ though. The plan in CA is to make firearms like cigs in peoples' minds, so they are neurotic about them (that is why it is illegal now to transport a riffle totally visible in a gun rack in a truck window! It might threaten people, this was done for generations in CA with no problems, suddenly it is a problem? No, it is a fake fear.) And they want them taxed high and so on.

You don't have to be wealthy to have nice guns. I mean you can spend thousands of dollars & months of waiting to legally acquire a Class 3 firearm (fully automatic for those not in the know) or just buy one same day service off the streets with the serial number filed off for a lot less. The government only wants to ban one of those...
