General thread compiling information on Terledrom is here:
http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/5977

This thread will only concern itself with the militia, its organization, rank structure, policies procedures, opportunities for non dralasites and vrusk within the militia. any and all things related to this militia.

Terledrom (Fromeltar) is ruled by a council of Vrusk companies and elected dralasites. The companies control all trade with other planets, and consider smuggling a serious crime. The planet has rings that are visible from the ground during the day.

Zik-kit (Kisk'-Kar) has very rich mineral deposits. These are exported mainly to Terledrom for manufacturing. Zik-kit is controlled as a colony by the Terledrom government.

Zebs Guide only expands on the planetary footnotes above to mention Trans- Travel and name a city on Terledrom: Sengen.

The militia needs a names much like in White Light its the Royal Marines.

I think a corporate business structure is called for with this militia. The "exec" is not the first officer but the captian of a ship. Naturally ranks all have vrusk names that are unpronouncible but we'll be using the Pan-gal translation. thus officer ranks will be Supervisor IT (in training= ensign), Supervisor (Lt.), Manager (Commander), Executive or Exec (Captain), upper command ranks: Vice Executive, Vice Executive Officer and Cheif Executive Officer

Enlisted personnel are called something that translates as "crew-force" the reality is that there is no traditional separation between enlisted and officer ranks in the human sense but rather one smooth advancement ladder based on performance and dedication.

Perhaps the name is Vrk'-zzk'-tikkar which translates Crew-Force Fromeltar or CFF
Ships are denoted as CFFS in Pan-Gal

EDIT: the Chief Financial Officer is either a upper command level rank or something that equates to quartermaster.
Perhaps there are warrent ranks: Financial Officer of the Ship FOS is the second in command. He maintians the ship in good working order and the books ensuring the ship is properly supplied.

any officer of Supervisor or above can have the FO designation and there is a visual designation on their rank or uniform that tells you they are the right hand of whoever is in charge. Thus the Vice Executive officer in overal command of Fromeltar system will have a Executive Financial Officer and the Vice Executive in overall command of Kisk'-Kar will have a Captain level officer as a FO.

The whole militia is commanded by the CEO. The CFF does not pay out prize money for the capture of ships but rather it pays a year end bonus to crews based on performance- based on value of the smuggled goods confiscated. value of a ship confiscated could also figure into the bonus.

RE: Naming the militia

previously speculated on Crew-Force Fromeltar but wasn't wild about that one

I think it should have something that reminds us of the trade connection to the vrusk

When the proto militia was established it was most likely a trade house that was given the contract. It would have had something like Trade House X
The evolution of the name could have seen the word "house" or "guard" dropped from the title:
House Guard Fromeltar or Trade Guard Fromeltar

Trade Guard Fromeltar has a nice ring to it but the letters TGF reminded me of something and I tried working an I into that coming up with Trade Guard Inspectors Fromeltar for TGIF, which may be overkill but was a fun to create and likely to be unforgettable.

So I'm rolling with Trade Guard Fromeltar or the TGIF version for right now.

This is what I use. They were influenced by the other races:

Fromeltar Defense Force (FDF)

The Fromeltar Defense Force was established to provide protection to the system and monitoring trade. The PAK (on Terledrom) primarily overseas business concerns and the FDF falls into this business concern as it enforces import restrictions and tariffs.

Candidates from all three planets volunteer for service within the FDF, as well as form outside. 30% of the FDF are from Groth, 10% Terledrom and 20% from Zik-kit. The remaining percentages come from abroad the Frontier. On Groth it is advertised that it is a "patriotic duty" to volunteer for the FDF. Majority of the FDF are Vrusk or Dralasite. Out of the 2,000 members, only about 500 are actually assigned to spaceships. These 500 members are divided into a Gold & White shifts. So at anytime only half of these members are on duty but, the spaceships are always on duty.

Enlisted

Cadet

Spaceman

Spaceman First Class

Non-commissioned Officer

Petty Officer Second Class

Petty Officer First Class

Chief Petty Officer                 Senior NCO, one per Assault Scout, Frigate and ASS

Master Chief Petty Officer     One within the FDF and commands all NCOs and Enlisted

Officer

Ensign                                     Ensign must go through Cadet training and then Officer Training.

                                                Command Kri'kkaa Shuttle

Second Lieutenant                  Command Scoutship

First Lieutenant                       Command Assault Scout

Commander                            Command ASS or Frigate

Captain                                    Staff Rank

Commodore                            Commands the FDF, he or she answers to the PAK

Cadet training consists of physical training, weapons and educational training. The training takes 30 days to complete. The Officer training consists of 20 days of training. It includes history, leadership and physical training. The FDF has to enforce different laws for different planets and systems. Part of the training received by cadets is extensive training in law *(Law Level 1; considered a Biosocial PSA skill as it is a science). The specifics of this training are listed below.

Terledrom Law: Melee weapons and grenades are not allowed. Smuggling is considered a serious crime.

Groth Law: Weapons are restricted. High import tax on items being brought to the planet by non-government routes. Smuggling is considered a serious crime.

Zik-kit Law: Concealed weapons and Helmet weapons are not permitted. There are extremely stiff penalties for assault company property.

Each member of the FDF receives standard and dress uniforms. These are white with tan highlights and black rank. A Military Skeinsuit, Albedo Screen, power beltpack and Electrostunner. Members of a boarding team also receive a needler rifle with two magazines of anesthetic ammunition.

Table of Organization and Equipment

(1) FDF Frigate                                   Sengsen

(5) FDF Assault Scouts:                     Dorboru, Hrrai, K'Riss, V'kkl, Zur'kitl

(6) Araks class Scoutships:                 Batu, Ch'ttl, Maul, Sword, Yentz, Z'Kit-it

(15) Kri'kkaa Shuttles*:                      varies

(3) Armed Space Station:                   Terledrom

                                                            Groth

                                                            Zik-kit

*Crew of 2 with 8 man boarding team.

Each planet has permanently assigned to it 2 Scoutships and 5 Kri'kkaa Shuttles. The FDF Sengsen and 3 Assault Scouts are assigned to the Fromeltar system. 2 Assault Scouts rotate to the Kizk'-Kar system every 30-60 days.

@Jaxon
Nice details and development.  I think Fromeltar Defense Force would make a better UPF designation for the force and that the locals would have a name that predates the UPF.  I get Jedion's corporate angle to naming it, but don't have anything that feels vruskish comming to my mind.  Likely it is a little longer in description and after translation is shorter to say as Fromeltar Defense Force.  Pre SW1 and the First Common Muster I don't see a driving motivation to be a defense force but rather a guard or safety or law enforcement named entity first.

That said, maybe the the traditional local name is longer, more vruskish, and it evolved into Fromeltar Defense Force post SW1 and the offical name has changed from a vruskish name to the Pan-Gal name, Fromeltar Defense Force.

Yes, I included the Araks and the Kri'kkaa ships as, 5 Assault Scouts seemed a small force to police/protect 3 planets in two systems. Plus, if it is a militia that is also a custom force well, they need to be trained ex: smuggling is big on Terledrom and Groth but, not Zik-kit. Zik-kit worries about damage to company property. Even the weapons allowed go from Fromteltar with no melee weapons, Zik-kit no concealed weapons to Groth no weapons! So that is why for the extra days of training for recruits as opposed to White Light.
The ASS ma belong to Spacefleet but, the militia would definitely have offices and barracks there. The militiamen use electrostunners - it can stun but, if it gets lethal; so can they. I think Fromeltar + Zik-kit have the most robust militia next to Theseus and Inner Reach. Those two are the only militia with their own Destroyers.
