Without endorsing nor going all grognard on it I can say that their plan to release a $20 starter product is probably a good idea. Especially when your buy in for the rules will be + $150! The other thing that they are doing right is having a storyline- the Tyrany of Dragons with what appears to be a mod titled The Rise of Tiamat. This will help, I'm sure. I suppose in forty years nothing much as changed, back then it took me a week worth of allowance and lawn mowing to buy one hard bound D&D book and it will likely take a weeks worth of work now to buy one, while still meeting other responsibilities. They should offer a trade in, like car dealerships, on the older hard bound edtions! I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Ascent July 22, 2014 - 4:11am | While Wayne Reynolds' work may not be suited to D&D, I personally find his work quite well done, provocative and well thought out. But the fact is, he's a manga artist with an original spin. That is quite different than D&D fantasy. That said, I think Pathfinder made the right choice in using him. (The fact that D&D has had a terrible time competing against it is proof of that.) It gave their product a unique look and feel, despite the fact that it was using a tired system that once had the D&D name and properties attached. The mistake is in treating their product as D&D. The product's feel is based much on its art. So it should never have been viewed by anyone as D&D by the very reason of its art. bioreplica August 3, 2014 - 4:19pm | So, my first game of 5E went very well. We had 4 hours. The first hour was used to explain the new edition and review the pre-gen characters. We managed 4 combat scenes during the 3 hours of roleplay : 2 small, 1 medium and 1 large encounter. 5E combat is definetly faster than 3.5 (and 4E). «Language is a virus from outer space» William S.
