TerlObar November 25, 2013 - 5:59pm | I tend to sketch them out on paper and then use Inkscape to do the drawing. It's not a mapping program but rather a vector drawing program. You can see some of the examples of the deck plans I've made in the Starship Compendium section of the Star Frontiers Network wiki. Also, I did the assault scout deck plans from issue 5 of the Frontier Explorer with inkscape as well. Also, I've done the complete deck plans (25 decks) for a Sathar Destroyer that we'll be publishing soon. I did a blog post that was a beginner's guide to using Inkscape to do maps. jedion357 November 26, 2013 - 5:30am | Dunjini software is available but they are not supporting it with new products and it scan be wonky till you really get past the learning curve. Campaign Cartographer is more current but not really as flexible as Dunjini IMO. you get locked into templates when you work with it but that is not the end of the world, some of the templates do some truly cool stuff but I have not gotten past its learning curve and it can be very frustrating. I've sort of given up on mapping software to pursue other things right now but I keep hoping that some one will come along and join the fan zine community that is a mapping wiz. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Abub November 26, 2013 - 7:38am | I see my photoshop would work if I could only find a decent custom shapes file ".CHS" with useful objects. I'm the farthest thing from a graphics person you could ask for but maybe I can figure out how to make some by stealing things I've seen in other deck plans. This might be much to advanced for me though. If anybody has any shapes files even for interior design (for like bunks, desks and toilets) let me know. My googling is not turning up anything usefull. ----------------------------------------------- |
TerlObar November 26, 2013 - 11:30am | All the items in my deck plans exist as small images as .svg files. Fire me an e-mail and I'll send them to you if you want. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Abub November 26, 2013 - 12:42pm | I'll have to look to see if my photoshop can use them. Illustrator does so I'd think probably photoshop does. ----------------------------------------------- |
Shadow Shack November 26, 2013 - 3:59pm | I freehand it with pencil & paper and then use MS Paint. Check the Deck Plans project for some of my work: |
The_Star_Herald December 2, 2013 - 12:33pm | This might help and it is free for basic use, only thing is you can only "online save" one map (unless you pay for full access). So, "print screen" it and save it as a PNG or jpeg. "For the love of Games, will you get your head out of that book and roll some dice!" |
