AnimuX August 25, 2013 - 12:07pm | Here is an image of a sathar soldier ready for battle. I drew this up and colored it in with Manga Studio 4 and a Wacom Bamboo tablet. I tried to stay true to the old comic art style used in the SF rulebooks and modules. What do you think? |
TerlObar August 25, 2013 - 1:10pm | That is great! In fact, the next issue of the Frontier Exporer magazine is going to be sathar themed. Would you be willing to let us use this in the magazine? I'd love to be able to include that as an illustration somewhere in one of the Sathar articles. Ad Astra Per Ardua! AnimuX August 25, 2013 - 1:28pm | Absolutely! If the image fits with the next Frontier Explorer issue feel free to include it. Consider it public domain. :) |
iggy August 25, 2013 - 1:33pm | This is an awsome drawing. You have the origonal SF feel down pretty well. I'd love to see more. -iggy |
TerlObar August 25, 2013 - 1:39pm | Well, we are careful to credit all our artists so if we do use it (and I think we will), I'll get back with you to find out exactly how you want to be credited. I love the image and can't wait to see any others you do. Ad Astra Per Ardua! AnimuX August 25, 2013 - 1:41pm | @iggy: I plan to draw up more. It's just a matter of devoting enough spare time. I used to just sketch out on paper and try to scan and rework in an image editor but didn't find the results very satisfying. The tablet makes it much easier to do so there will be more. :) |
iggy August 25, 2013 - 2:02pm | Which Wacom Bamboo tablet do you have? I was not familiar with Wacom until this post and googling it. There seem to be some tablets that are affordable enough to just try out. -iggy |
AnimuX August 25, 2013 - 2:13pm | I have the CTH470. Just recently got it for about $75 USD incl tax & shipping. It's pretty small but that works for me when adding in small details (not making any large broad strokes with the pen). The Manga Studio software is specifically designed for drawing comics too. |
TerlObar August 25, 2013 - 4:38pm | My daughter has the one that is about 8.5x11 in physical size. That was her birthday present a couple years back. She loves it as well. I keep meaning to borrow it from her and play with it but never have the time. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 August 26, 2013 - 3:16am | Great stuff AnimuX, I love the fact that the you took care with equipping the sathar and the the dral is good too- I think I detect a little bit of the dralasite strong-id in that picture since he looks like he's going Hulk Hogan with his ship jump suit. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
OnceFarOff August 26, 2013 - 5:59am | WOW. This is amazing! Other than the color art in the original books, I can't say that I've seen better Star Frontiers art than this. |
iggy August 26, 2013 - 6:46am | Supper! I have to agree with OnceFarOff. I haven't seen better fan art. This stuff will attract the attention of a new generation of SF fans. -iggy |
jedion357 August 26, 2013 - 7:26am | We may need to recruit Animux to the Frontier Explorer staff. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy August 26, 2013 - 9:19am | Yes. Between AZGamer's photo-realistic stuff and renderings and AnimuX's manga with a retro SF feel the community has both ends of the spectrum in great form. I would really like to see AnimuX's take on a vrusk in an action pose with a vrusk centric weapon. -iggy |
AnimuX August 26, 2013 - 9:51pm | Vrusk (as requested) is coming along nicely. Will take another day or so to finish it up. :) |
TerlObar August 28, 2013 - 5:04am | Wonderful! Now someone needs to do a writeup and spec out those blasters Ad Astra Per Ardua! iggy August 28, 2013 - 5:50am | Wow! I would diminish my expression of being impressed if I said anything wordier than, WOW! -iggy |
jedion357 August 28, 2013 - 6:33am | The vrusk head is tough to get right, I know, great job. Perhaps the blasters are sonic stunner? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar August 28, 2013 - 6:57am | I don't care what they are. I like 'em and want a pair. Great job AnimuX. Can't wait to see what else you come up with. Ad Astra Per Ardua! FirstCitizen August 28, 2013 - 5:30pm | Awesome work AnimuX. Can't wait to see more. |
AnimuX August 28, 2013 - 6:37pm | Thanks everybody! :) As for the vrusk weapons: I always assumed the generic term for a beam weapon was a blaster, like a laser pistol, in sci-fi, in general. |
OnceFarOff August 28, 2013 - 7:13pm | Wow. The Vrusk is fantastic too! |
TerlObar October 6, 2013 - 3:08pm | Animux, we're going to use these in the next issue of the Frontier Explorer. Send me a message or e-mail and let me know if there is any particluar way you'd like to be credited. And keep the images coming. Ad Astra Per Ardua! TerlObar October 19, 2013 - 9:57am | Love it. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
jedion357 October 19, 2013 - 11:15am | Now thats battle rage. And the dralasite in the corner asks, "What's the matter? Did the robot not let you win at 3D chest?" I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
AnimuX October 19, 2013 - 7:16pm | Creature pic currently in the works. :-) |
