It is not an actual planetary brief though it deals with all the same information as a planetary brief. We of course all are familiar with planetary briefs and the single difference between these two items is that a planetary brief is for the referee to root and adventure in a particular location. A cultural perspective is for the player to root his character from a particular location. A planetary brief looks at the cannon material to tell a referee what is in a location and what might be located there or or what might happen there. A cultural perspective looks at the cannon material to describe how this impacts the culture of someone that grew up there. My interest in this came about because i had noticed over the years in various PC backgrounds that the Royal Marines were a common background element (understandable since a whole module was dedicated to them) I felt that this was lopsided and that material should be developed to aid players in developing characters with other backgrounds and from other planets. Thus the cultural perspective that is about to be dropped on the community in issue 4. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

Of course since there are many more players then referees we could probably do with more cultural perspectives than planetary briefs. And an imaginative referee that has read a cultural perspective should be able to fly by the seat of his pants and run an adventure in that location.
