rattraveller April 4, 2013 - 4:39pm | Random thoughts here. The Dralasite love jokes and puns and there has been many a mention of Dralasites and whoopie cushions. Given their physiology and that their language has audio, visual and odorous components would it be possible that their whoopie cushions are doing more than just making a loud noise? Might it be that the strange sounds coming from the postier also include the "signature" of the jokester? Also given that they speak in smells, could their whoopie cushions also emit odors as an off shoot of their communications technology? What other types of jokes could they be pulling on Human, Vrusk and Yazirians that they are unaware of? Like maybe that "modern art" painting your Dral pal gave you is really saying something crass in the Dralasite visual component of their language. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 April 4, 2013 - 9:14pm | I'm betting a sizable percentage of their population also go in for practical jokes, like a bucket of water over the door. Painting with hidden meanings, yes I could buy that but then not all dralasites are doing that- Dralasites of inner reach that are doing their walking mood ring thing probably do this more in that they dye their skin in patterns recognized as being rude or similar. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

The skin-painting never made sense if one goes by their color-blindness, as only non-Dralasites would see it. All I can figure is that they would use it to distinguish themselves among other races. If one is to read the interviews about Alien Worlds (the prototype game), one would find a note about Dralasites also enjoying "shape-humor." That is not something I seen addressed too much on this forum. |
jedion357 April 5, 2013 - 4:27am | Color blind does not mean they cannot distinguish patterns - no doubt a dralasite painting has garrish color combination and odd color choices when appreciated by races with color vision. Dralasites living in human society probably learn all the many ways that humans "flip the bird". I'm sure they are fascinated with all the creative greeting rituals where people go through a series of fist pumps, hand slaps and and what have you. I could see a dralasite getting into hip hop and break dancing as well. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller April 5, 2013 - 4:58am | oh my gosh i just realized the inner reach dralasites are the original fifty shades of gray i am very disturbed now Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 April 5, 2013 - 7:23am | There is no reason for them to be 50 shades of gray because they cant tell the difference between red and a shade of gray. Their color choices will be quite random unless they study color theory and use labeled colors but then their art work will have a subtle offness to it and be slighly jarring in its impact instead of garrish. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
