I remember watching Abbott and Costello on Saturday mornings as a kid. Never did I ever image I'd ever be a part of an Abbott and Costello skit.

I had a delivery to a medical research building with higher security then most hospitals. Been there before during the day but its 5:45pm and wonder of wonders the loading dock is unlocked but no dock master on duty. I back the van in and unload my cart and start in the direction that my vague memory says the elevator is.

Going down the hall a janitor comes out of a side door and I say, "Hey, its been a while is the elevator down this way?"

"You, no can use the elevator without a pass from security."

"Where can I get a pass from security?"

"On the second floor."

"can I use the elevator to get there?"

"you no can use the elevator without a pass from security."

"Right, on the second floor, could you use your pass for me to get there by elevator?"

"No my pass no work for you, you have to go to security to get a pass to use the elevator."

"where do I do that?'

"On the 2nd floor."

"How would I get there?'

"by elevator."

I'm sure I dont need to go on more with this. this brain child wasted 5 or so minutes of my time. then he finally said he'd take me and the door he had just come through he opened and 5 feet beyond that one was another door and on the other side of that door was a security guard!

Now my adventure was not over there as both security guards had no interest in doing anything that would have required getting off their butts. and I ran into a woman who was there for the medical conference for which I was delivering the food and even though she had a pass for the elevator, they were now on lock down because it was 6pm (actually the guards locked them down early because it was before 6pm) and she an 2 other women who also had their own passes could not activate the elevator so they went back to the 2nd floor security desk 30 feet away and wasted another 8 minutes trying to get the guard to come an unlock the elevator so we could go up and he kept saying just go up. Finally he said, "I'll have to call for the supervisor."

Really? he couldn't walk 30 feet to unlock the elevator?

Meanwhile, the food is late and the customer, a drug rep is complaining to the store and the doctor speaking at this little 20 person conference is in a huff because the food is effectively 20 minutes late and didn't the delivery person (me) realize how important this doctor with some European accent was?

Personally, I'm all kinds of amused and entertained by it all- I legitimately had an Abbott and Costello moment! How cool is that!

EDIT: there is the distinct possibility that this story trumps Shadow Shack's Dude man stories.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

It's definitely worthy of dudeman status, if not for the fact that these clowns actually did have a slight clue about the subject matter (however slight it may be).

I simply prefer to label such types as "ABLF" (Able Bodied Lazy F____s). You know the type, those young men who fill up the post office on the first tuesday each month to collect their disability checks and utilize mobility scooters in lieu of actually walking. Well, that may be a bit harsh, these particular LFs actually hold a job...

But the real humor is watching all of them fight for the two handicap spots at the post office. They'll actually wait in their cars with engines running for one of the two spots to be made available rather than park a few spots away and scoot into the PO for the next line.

LOL@jedion. I have been there and done that. I had my own bit of that on the phone with Mazzio's pizza last night when they didn't have the coupon from the phonebook in their system. I hung up on them twice to keep my cool because I didn't want to start screaming at them. I don't want to go through it all here, but I worked it out in the third call.

Wow, I haven't been to a Mazzio's since the late 1980s, which is about when they disappeared from this end of the world.

I still have a couple of their yellow refill cups.
