jedion357 November 12, 2012 - 6:48am | Should we introduce equipment by race or perhaps racial preferences for certain weapons and technologies? We need to stat out gauss guns- pistol and rifle Rail gun as artillery piece flame thrower is really an overlooked must IMO should we not have a smoke grenade that is just a smoke grenade? and a smoke grenade that is a tear gas grenade? Should we drop needlers from the equipment list altogether? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
OnceFarOff November 12, 2012 - 7:45am | WW2 - k98 rifle, mp40 smg vs. M1 Garand and Thompson Viet Nam - AK47 vs M16. I think that if other countries on the same planet would have developed different weapons, that different planets could at least follow the same basic principle, but should probably take it to a greater extreme and follow entirely different lines of technology. I think it would be interesting to have each race have a preferred weapon tech, and perhaps even have their be different means to trigger them. In my SF setting, using sathar weapons can be done at a penalty because they are fired by a different type of appendage and would not fit another race as well. Perhaps lasers and basic slug throwers could be a catch all that all races adapt due to contact with one another, but other types of weapons are more individual by race? I like the idea of cigar smoking colonial marines packing scatterguns myself. Yazirians swooping in with wrist mounted flame throwers and some Yaz blade? Dralasites with some sort of gauss based needler like in Halo? Vrusks with explosive tipped adding machines? |
jedion357 November 12, 2012 - 9:39am | I like gyrojet weapons for the yazirians that they went in for rocket tech even though they did develop slug throwers. The first yazirian slug throwers were powder and shot but much like the British developed rocket artillery during the age of the muzzel loader rocket tech was developed by the yaz and its what progressed. Eventually they did develop bulletes in casings but it never supplanted their fondness for rocket tech. In fact you can still find clan artifacts of the clan wars that are single shot reloadable rocket launchers- very ornate and hand crafted. Gyrojet weapons have spread through interspecies contact but if you want the famed tri barrel gyrojet rifle you need to buy one on a yaz planet. Oh humans!! We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?". ~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
