ALIEN, the movie that Star Wars saved

Just checked out one of those directors cut / anniverary edition copies of Alien with like five hours of interviews and making of specials on a second DVD in the case. Learned some interesting stuff, Ripley was written as a man, in fact all characters were but the writers were mindful of Fox's rep for pushing woman's empowerment at that time out a note on the script that any of the characters could be women. John Hurt called the chest bursting scene his birthing scene and seemed quite amused by it, I doubt he's had many birthing scenes in his career so one cannot fault him on that. The studio was completely rewriting the script over and over mwking it worse and the screen writer announced on the first day that he didn't know anything about science fiction and he didn't like it. He also had a cqmpaign going to change anything and everything to deny the writer a writing credit. But then out came star wars as a hit and suddenly Fox wanted a sci fi product to bring to film like right now and Alien was the only thing available so the went with the original script and dropped 8 mill to pay for it. Thank you George Lukas.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Great movie. Rewatched it after about 20 years and it was better than I remembered.

Too bad Ridley Scott lacked the foresight to secure merchandising rights. Wink

And I concur, excellent film, as was the sequel. The next two don't really count.

Prometheus was decent enough.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

I just watched Aliens yesterday and I have Alien too. Both are great movies.

Prometheus is certainly better than Alien 3 or 4 (or A vs P), so I think it deserves a place of honor as one of the "good" Alien movies.

I wish I could comment on that. I just bought that movie but when I got home I realized it was Pandorum.

I only count alien 1 and 2.  The rest didn't happen.  Wink

I have not seen these since I got married so I can't comment any further.

Well Alien 3 while highly improbable as to how the Aliens actually got inside her would have been a good close to the trilogy. Thinking a deleted scene should not have been deleted to better explain things.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Alien 3 had a few good moments.  Very few.

Alien 4 also had a few good moments.  Actually, I like 4 better than 3.  The relationship between the Ripley clone & the Winona Rider android was interesting.
