w00t (not verified) June 8, 2012 - 8:31pm | Putraack, that's awesome! How do you feel SF ran using the Savage Worlds rule set? Did the sathar have bennies? lol |
Putraack June 14, 2012 - 9:54am | I ran the "Warriors of White Light" adventures for them, so the only Sathar they met were near the end. I believe I gave the leader Wild Card bennies, in addition to the GM's set of bennies. I think it worked really well, it's a easy system to pick up, and it largely stays out of the way of the story; I've run it with Star Frontiers and Space:1889 so far. It helps that it's hard for characters to completely die, but there is that once in a while when the dice just explode in a nasty way. One kid's PC was incapacitated or dead almost every session. The conversions were pretty easy, a level of skill equating to a die-type in a skill. I kinda wish I'd had more time to explore the setting as a setting, but they were kids and interested only in the hack & slash, collecting more and bigger guns to shoot stuff up. I was surprised by the lethality of Knight Hawks (which I ran straight), their Assault Scout blew up at least twice. |
TerlObar June 14, 2012 - 11:29am | Yes, despite their cool appearance, Assault Scouts aren't the hardiest of ships. They tend to die quickly. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 June 14, 2012 - 5:53pm | the other issues with assault scouts and UPF ships vs sathar ships is that the UPF ships almost universally across the board have higher ADF. The work horses of the UPF fleet are the frigate and assault scout while the work horse of the sathar fleet is the destroyer. This means the sathar tend to be heavier and slower while the UPF ships are lighter and more fleet of foot. Sathar want to close with an opponent and go toe to toe pounding away till something breaks as they can soak up more damage. If a UPF captain fails to utilize his speed advantage and plays the sathar's game then he's going to get shot out of the universe. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
