Nice, now we need one for Role Playing Games! No. No we don't. All the images would look the same. :-P lol Are you kidding? Really? Picture this: "What Jerry Fallwell thinks were do:" and the picture is a screen capture of him holding up a AD&D manual from the '80s to condemn dungeon and dragons as devil worship and added to the picture is a cartoon speech bubble and within that speech bubble is a picture of devil worshipers performing a black mass. "What My co-workers think I do:" find an outrageous picture of LARPers wailing on each other with foam swords "What my parents think I do:" picture of people playing with outrageously childish toys. What I think I do: picture of the fellowship of the ring or conan (Arnold conan) What I actually do: table with pizza chips and coke and dice and etc. People looking bored because its D20 and their waiting 30 freaking minutes for their turn to roll the dice because they're not playing an old school game like Star Frontiers. I'm sure we can come up with more. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 16, 2012 - 8:49pm | Ooops I just checked and Falwell died in 2007 so despite the fact that he took a AD&D manual on his show and held it up to condemn it as devil worship, It would probably be in poor taste to rag on him after he's dead. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
rattraveller February 16, 2012 - 9:08pm | So the guy who sued Hustler and lost, who said the Lord would call him Home if they didn't raise enough money, who had to apologize for his own behavior and who thought that 9/11 was the Lord's way of punishing the US for its sinful ways should not be put in a poster accurately showing how he felt toward our hobby. Hang on I have got to get Elvis and George Washington to tweet in on this. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
jedion357 February 16, 2012 - 9:14pm | I'm having trouble confirming my buddy's story about Falwell taking a D&D manual on TV to condemn it despite his having vivid memories of seeing that. just not finding a solid connection of scandal between him and D&D. I suspect if he did do it that it may have been connected to the attivities of BADD and Pulling. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Ascent February 18, 2012 - 5:43pm | Condemning D&D and heavy metal as promoting devil worship was the big thing with religious organziations in the eighties. I doubt Jerry Falwell was the only one to hold a D&D product to show it and condemn it. View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. "It's yo' mama!" —Wicket W. thespiritcoyote February 18, 2012 - 7:54pm | But wait a minute!!! According to the commercial FOR the game... shown during the Superbowl half-time no less... the Dungeon Masters Guide turns your 10yr old kid INTO a demonic goblin thing! either that or Demonic imp sized creatures disguise themselves as Dungeon Masters to lure other kids over to their house to indoctrinate them into the evil vile ways of the D&D worshiping cult.... and eat them... Or at least that was how the imagery impacted my own over active imagination. Oh humans!! We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?". ~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
Malcadon February 18, 2012 - 7:57pm | For Jerry Fallwell or Pat Robertson, I would use a picture of some satanic (or wiccan - its all the same to them) ritual. Much of the old D&D-is-devil-worship demagoguery has folded to Harry Patter. Much of what they say about Harry Potter ("Its used to recruit satanists", "The number of children satanists has gone up by X00,000 since it was publish", etc.) was rehashed from what was said about D&D in the '80s - often word-by-word verbatim. |
thespiritcoyote February 18, 2012 - 8:29pm | well just for the record... I agree, D&D is evil vile and unholy... and people should play more Star_Frontiers -or-
and help combat the spread of evil systems! Oh humans!! AZ_GAMER February 18, 2012 - 11:13pm | Much of the old D&D-is-devil-worship demagoguery has folded to Harry Patter. As convienent as this would be, its just not true today. Sure there are some small ultra conservative groups that want to pin anything as some kind of occult or devil worship. However for the majority, most organized religious groups are not so un-enlightened as to concern themselves with on goings of Harry Potter, Twilight, or even that most awful of hobbies RPG's such as D&D. With rampant sexual immorality, internet predators, criminal violence, and unrivaled drug abuse...organized religion has more bigger problems to help combat then to worry about Harry Potter or D&D. |
