And does it seem much more likely that smaller ships could go longer between overhauls? Would not a battleship require more to keep it running not less? Shadow Shack October 23, 2011 - 12:44pm | Assuming you mean to put oversized drives on a smaller vessel, an Ion drive will save far more overahaul time than any atomic drive. The obstacle for an oversized drive would be the additional integrity needed onthe smaler hull, you would need a lot of additional "strut" to accomodate the extra power. It would be like putting a Mack truck motor into a Civic, it would torque itself right out of the engine bay without some serious beefing up of the frame. Just to cite this, here's an assault scout I rendered a few years ago with B drives, note the additional strut-work above and beyond standard issue assault scout wing mounts (which is probably still lacking sufficient integrity) to illustrate the difference: |
