I guess that's why Weird Al had to meet up in the back alley to get a copy....

LOL I remember the holiday special!

Oddly enough, the only thing I remember about the holiday special was losing interest in it after 15-20 minutes. Sacrilege, coming from one who claims fandom of all things Star Wars.

Apparently, from what I heard later on, it got better after that, --- with an animated Boba Fett sequence and cameos of the original cast arriving at the end.

But I have yet to see it in its entirety.

I forgot about the animated Boba Fett though I remember the cameos. IIRC it was about Chebacca Jr. And stormtroopers terrorizing his family. EDIT: Shadow have you googled the special? Its out there on the web to view or buy. Carrie Fisher stated she forced Lucas to give her a copy in exchange for a favor and she plays it at parties when she wants people to leave.

Edit: Shadow have you seen the lost intro to star wars?

Lucas might have done better to put this back into Star wars then the other stuff that he did.

I'd never actually seen the scene, but know of it via the novel and the Marvel comic adaptation. It was a great piece, and I always wanted to see it (thanks for the link!).

Fixer & Cammie (they called Luke "wormie" all the time) had intersting roles in the Marvel series later on.

The Biggs interaction was also in the novelization, although I don't recall it being as extended as the footage there.

When I was growing up--heck, even into my mid-twenties--Star Wars was the best thing ever. I pretty well worshipped it. What kind of bizarro future world do we live in when Star Wars is laughable and Battlestar Galactica is amazing?

Funny how really good shows like Firefly and the new BSG get cut off prematurely and then you get good thing like Star Wars and Star Trek which get ridden way past the time they should have been turned out to pasture. Paramount should have listened to the message of the final TNG episode.

Well, the new BSG got to finish. Thank God. I seem to be one of the few who loved the way it ended, but that's neither here nor there. Caprica was canceled, and I think that was a shame.

My recent obsession with Star Frontiers has me watching space shows recently. We started Firefly this week (this time on blu-ray!). I'd only seen it the one time, several years ago. This time through I'm enjoying it even more. However, last night I convinced my wife to let me watch an episode of BSG (this time on blu-ray!) between Firefly episodes. It took a lot of convincing, but I won out in the end. It was "The Passage," from season 3. I always forget how much I love the show until I watch it again. By the time the episode ended, I was wiping tears away (BSG does this to me). We went back to Firefly and had a great time watching the next episode.

The shows offer different things, and I really enjoy both of them. But BSG bullseyes what I most love about drama and storytelling. Most people I know prefer Firefly, and since I too love Firefly, I can understand that.

What do they have to do with Star Wars? They fill the void it once occupied.
What does this have to do with Star Frontiers.org? Well, nothing, but that's okay. :-D

The new BSG didn't get cut off prematurely, it completed it's series all the way from start to finish with a consistent and fairly uninterrupted story line with four seasons and an ending. Caprica was kind of rushed, it did have completion but it seemed like they decided to rush the story a little to meet the cut off date for the end of the series. Scify is planning another prequel BSG focusing on the first cylon war and young commander Adama.

Firefly - tragic, one of my favorite shows, tragic. But there is hope. The Science Channel bought the rights for the show and Nathan Fillion said that if it weren't for his current contract with Castle he would jump at the chance to reprise his role. So there is still some discussion about bringing Firefly back to the small screen. The problem is, that until firefly went to DVD it wasnt really that well recevied in its time block on network tv. Once it was released to DVD it gained a huge cult fan base which helped launch Serenity to the big screen.

I believe, though I could be wrong that BSG had to wrap things up quick during the last season due to the possibility of a writers strike which is why they wrapped up the current storyline and Adama ordered the big jump to Earth. Yet the end was cool none the less if not a little predictable.

And they probably wouldn't even if it did go that route...

Well I'll end this part of the digression with, in my opinion from the movie razor to the end of Season 4 seemed appropriately paced and did not seemed rushed or hastened. It seemed natural that after starbuck went off on the expedition and found that stellar road map the pace would hasten as the Fleet moved towards Earth, the Cylon civil war was in full swing, and the discovery of our earth all seem to be in proper sequence. Even a good thing like BSG can't last forever. It was certainly a heck of a lot longer lasting than the original. When you watch the movie "the plan" it does shed some more light on the cylon motivation and the story in general. I think it is a good think that it wrapped up so that they can get ready for the prequel.

On BSG, the writers' strike, etc:

The strike occurred during the first half of season 4. They filmed until they ran out of scripts. Then they went back to production when the strike was over and shot the rest. The only aggravating thing about it was that the second half of season 4 was pushed to 2009 (a whole year later). But before they had even begun season 4 they announced it would be the last season. Ron Moore & co essentially said that when a show goes on too long, it struggles for ideas to keep it going. Personally, I'm glad it ran 4 seasons because it's easy to remember the plot pretty distinctly.

Prequel: when Caprica was canceled, they started drawing up a new show called Battlestar Galactica Blood and Chrome. It followed Adama during the first cylon war (i.e. it would have the look of the '70s BSG as depicted in Razor). As of August, however, SyFy may have changed their plans for it. It may not be on TV. They may just make it a web series

I Don't begrudge the workers at Hasbro / WTOC, but the management decision about Star Frontiers has absolutely no purpose other than to keep it locked in the vault. There is no excuse for it and no explanation from WOTC that makes any sense. It would be one thing if they planned on a re-launch which I think all of us would get behind. BUT we all know that is not the case. So I will continue my boycott of the company, until they do the right thing and offer licensing for the game. Just because the hard working rank and file are good people doesnt mean the company is doing the right thing, Need I mention why some boycott Blizzard.

Don't get me jazzed up about Hasbro - when they bought Avalon Hill (AH), and except for a few 'leakers' (the MMP Squad Leader, etc) stuff, just about every AH title (well, the good ones) are only availabe via eBay, and the ones that were still allowed to see the light of day (Cosmic Encounter to drop a name) are Gawd AWFUL! And, to put the AH moniker for Axis\Allies???? They have MANY better games that cover the war.
And, yes, I know, simplicity and nice plastic counters of soldiers, planes, ships, and factories are much better than 2D cardboard counters.
For the games I still have, maintain, and lovingly take care of, I feel like the book keeps from Alcatraz Island in 'the book of Eli'....

Eh-hem... here is the official Wiki quote on the status of Blood & Chrome

Syfy made an announcement on October 22, 2010, saying that a 2-hour pilot was green-lit for production.[11] On February 10, 2011, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome began principal photography in Vancouver, British Columbia.[12][11] During the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, Syfy's president of original programming, Mark Stern, hinted to an uncertainty regarding which format the project was going to be released in, weighing the possibility of making it into an online series.[13]
