jedion357 August 24, 2011 - 5:15pm | I generally assume that the planets and star of a race's native system was named by them with a few caveats that a planet called Forge, Faire or Homeworld is what I call a translation into Pan Gal. So with Larg, Hum, Kran, Glak, Clud and Fochrik being humma language Capella, Ifshna, Astraa, Flaund, Bigoo, Haasan, and Kleevor being ifshnit language and Osak, Fhloid, Osaka, Piscatien, Reanee, Wonma, Obladee, Ontair, Octon, Onmar, Weskin, and Weot to be Osakaran language So who named Kasak system and Stenmar, Brount, Bernt, Blif, and Brumt? Who named Cryxia system and Pi'Ka'Nair, T'zaan, and B'ud? Who named Klaeok system? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Gargoyle2k7 August 24, 2011 - 7:37pm | I would like to pooint out first the mistake I've seen regarding Fhlold; a few people and the Zeb's remastered lists it as "Fhloid" but the original is "Fhlold". As to Kazak/Stenmar(Brount, Bernt, Bilf, Brumt), Klaeok/Point Go, and Cryxia/Pi'Ka'Nair (B'ud), T'zaan - it seems to me that the osakar and ifshnits would be the primary explorers among the Rim races, and as such the namers of these bodies. I am inclined to say the Kazak and Klaeok names are ifshnit, while the Cryxia names are osakaran, just because it feels that way. One of the things I hated about the Rim were these names. A moon named B'ud? :/ Anyway, that's my 0.2 credits... Long live the Frontier! |
jedion357 August 25, 2011 - 5:01am | Perhaps someone wanted to get their favorite beer into the Frontier, thus B'ud. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Gargoyle2k7 August 25, 2011 - 11:42am | Like in early D&D, where there was mention of the orc god Koorz. :/ Long live the Frontier! |
jedion357 August 25, 2011 - 11:56am | I think I have to agree with gargoyle about the sound of the names. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 October 22, 2011 - 6:39am | Had a "duh" moment: all of or some of the planets in the newly colonized systems in the Rim could have the names of the osakar or ifshnit that discovered them. Thus giving us a sweet of names to use for those races. Likewise its not a stretch that an individual might have been named after a planetary body in their native system so many of the planetary or lunar names from those systems are on the table for naming these races. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
