Putraack July 14, 2011 - 8:25am | So, in the game of WoWL I am running for my son and his friends, CMS Osprey was destroyed during the rescue of the Prenglar Doll. Am electrical fire critical hit was the indirect cause of the ship's loss. Specifically, damage to the nav. controls forced continual turns while the ship tried to decelerate at maximum rate, with hull damage. As the ship reached 0 speed, the hull finally let go. The Doll was rescued, but the pirate got away clean. The question I ask is: is this cause for the relief of Lt. Tabbe as commanding officer? When the two new AS arrive next session, should he be allowed to take one of them? Or does the above sound like conduct not up to the professional standards of the Royal Marines? I'm inclined to not carry him over, as I am presuming that the command of the Marines have already selected and trained the future commanders of those two ships. For that matter, as the ships (in my timeline) are already on their way, skeleton crews are the ones bringing them over from WarTech shipyards (at Morgaine's World, I suppose?) It's easy enough for me to say that one of the new skippers is the Sathar sleeper agent as it is to keep Lt. Tabbe that way. Opinions of the Court? |
TerlObar July 14, 2011 - 9:04am | Well, losing one's command, whatever the reason, is never a good career move. Since you already have them enroute, I'd probably go with a new captain for the new ships. No reason Tabbe can't still be a sleeper agent as well, along with the new captain. Transfer him station side and he can cause more havoc there. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 July 14, 2011 - 11:53pm | I have to completely agree with Terl Obar on this and making one of the other captians the sleeper agent is the simplest and easiest sollution. Though the WoWL module is written to sugges that it is not the sum total of the PCs experiences in the RM but is written to support a campaign. So it could be possible to write in a court of inquiry and other adventures. It could be that Tabbe is still the traitor and that his machinations to still deliver an assault scout to the sathar could be grist for an interesting set of encounters. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Putraack July 15, 2011 - 12:00pm | I think I will go with just writing him out (sidelined to non-flying duty), and have the new skipper be the sleeper. Especially if I do something to make the new AS be a new & improved variant. (Time to check the SFMan index again...) One of the difficulties (for me as GM) with using this framework is that the guys are still too inexperienced with RPing to be adding their own backgrounds and the like to the game. They're still in "kill 'em and take their stuff" mode, which is why I am using this game to take away the drive for loot. |
