AZ_GAMER April 9, 2011 - 5:04pm | I ordered some recently and will give a full review upon their arrival. Initially I can say ordering was very easy using paypal and that Spyder has shipped my product promptly and corresponded with appropriate parcel tracking #. +1 Kudos to Spyder and his model shop! Please support this artist with your patronage |
AZ_GAMER April 9, 2011 - 9:56pm | The order just arrived. It looks like Spyder is just a state away so shipping time was fast. The product all is of very high quality and looks just like the original metal mini's. Being in plastic their isnt much flashing on models and unlike their metal counter parts the model parts are not bent a problem that occurs frequently due to the soft lead. The Battleship is big, i forgot how much of a monster that mini actually is. To put in perspective for you its about the size of a highlighter marker. You will definitely need a double flight stand for this one. My overall review of this product is exceptional, the price is unbelievably great, and I recommend it to anyone. Great job Spyder, I will certainly be ordering more! |
elpotof April 15, 2011 - 1:15pm | Hi All, just ordered the miniatures from Spyder this morning. These will be travelling to UK, so we'll see them at some point! The miniatures look impressive, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them inthe flesh. Is there any plans to put some Sathar ships into production? Nice to see some adverseries for them to fight! |
AZ_GAMER April 15, 2011 - 5:06pm | oh yea! that minelayer rocks! and if you didnt want to use it as a minelayer it certainly would fit the role for many other types of starship. Great job Spyder. I will definitely get some of those in my next order! +1 Awesome |
spyder April 15, 2011 - 5:08pm | Hello everyone Yes, in time I plan on having every ship available and will do my best to fill the gaps for the ships that were never made. I should have some new ships in a few days. As they become available I will edit above and post the new ships. Thank you. |
AZ_GAMER April 15, 2011 - 5:10pm | What do you use for the decal style lines you paint on paint jobs? (Like on the Destroyer) |
spyder April 17, 2011 - 12:05am | Use ink to wash job and fill carved lines and separations, Then dry brush to bring out detail, and paint areas again, its all technique. Be careful not to over do the first primer and paint as it will fill in the crevasse's. For a metallic effect with color, paint the miniature in silver (chain-mail Games work shop paint) then brush over with red yellow blue or what ever ink you like. black will get you the effect I use for engines. I was in a hurry to get the mine layer out and should have sanded the super glue. The upf i just paint on, I actually have never used decals but if some one were to make some for the ships I'm sure they would look great. |
spyder April 19, 2011 - 2:03pm | New miniatures available, see above. |
thespiritcoyote April 19, 2011 - 3:23pm | *drool* nice work! Oh humans!! We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?". ~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
AZ_GAMER April 19, 2011 - 4:01pm | I like the privateers too! I will definitely buy one of each of those but I need to finish ordering my military ships first. I will most likely be placing an order at the end of the month to finish out my stock of your federation ship production line. I hope you are getting orders from the other members too. Your work is really cool. As I mentioned before, I really love that new mine layer, it has a versatile enough design that you could use it as the mine layer or repaint it for use as another kind of ship. |
jedion357 April 27, 2011 - 11:50am | Perhaps the Assault carrier should be classed as a Heavy carrier since its the size of a battle ship. then add a smaller carrier that could be an assault or escort carrier that is in the size range of a lt cruiser. otherwise I like it; since the carrier is an assembly required is it possible to put 2 shuttle bays on it? sort of an over and under arrangement? Have you seen Umungus' beauty of a ag ship? http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/3607 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
spyder April 27, 2011 - 6:46pm | Thank you, these are fine points. I make no rules governing on how any of these miniatures are used, I just try to scale them to the size of the originals and keep the same "look", If the miniature is popular enough I'm sure someone will make rules and history on there own. As far as size we do have super carriers in our Navy and much smaller carriers. From what I have read the carrier is supposed to be able to house two assault scouts, now to do that the bay is just big enough to do so ( realistically it needs to be bigger). I have thought of the over and under bays, I can make a smaller main body to add to the bay and a shaved body for the over and under this will save the buyer money so they won't have to kit bash. If anyone else would like to see two other classes of carrier please let me know and I will get the other two out as soon as possible. Got a look at the AG ship, it is excellent work. I love how he put clear plastic over the crop fields that is ingenious. |
spyder March 10, 2012 - 1:56pm | I have been experimenting with new molds, plastic and color...I'm not overly excited about these but i have a few of them, left to right, "C ship" , "D ship" (Out of Stock till new molds are made for metal casting) size comparison |
jacobsar May 3, 2011 - 6:40pm | Fantastic Job Spyder! Looking forward to more designs. Have you considered using the pictures in the d20 Future suplements for the designs of core race unique ships? The books are not SF cannon but have interesting ideas for Yazarian Vrusk and Dralastite ship designs. I like the Kic'ticklack' ship yard ships! I will be ordering in the near future. Reasonable men adapt to the world around them; unreasonable men make the world adapt to them. The world is changed by unreasonable men. Edwin Louis Cole |
spyder May 3, 2011 - 8:14pm | Thank you. I am working on a different look for the "v-race" ships (see above VS-I) and above is an example of the "D-race" ship line (D-Ship). Sales and requests, IE number of interested parties will determine if I spend too much time completeing lines. However i do have a few projects I am working on at this time. |
w00t (not verified) May 12, 2011 - 1:20pm | A little spyder told me my order is on its way! /me so excited. These mini's will be my first foray into the painting world of miniatures. If there are enough people interested we could do a Painting Contest or Image of the Week. I've always enjoyed Heroscapers images and custom terrain. |
AZ_GAMER May 12, 2011 - 5:19pm | Hold two of the C ships and 2 of the D ships for my next order which I will place the end of the month, please. |
Captain Rags May 12, 2011 - 9:47pm | Damn talented Spyder! Are there any plans for civilian ships in the works? My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
spyder May 12, 2011 - 10:58pm | Thank you all, AZ, i will hold the ships, I plan on making more, I just didnt like the plastic I used. and the colors uhgh! The colors will make you want to throw paint on them asap. Other than that there is nothing wrong with them. Cpt Rags, Yes I have a few civy ships out now, C-ship, D-ship, privateers, and VS-I . I am currently work on a multitude of sculpts and a web site so it may be a wile before I can get them ready for production. Also in the plan are figures, scenery, a B.F. space station that you can buy in parts and build as you can afford, or out right (did i mention its big),More ships, and some others I will discuss in the miniatures project forum. |
spyder May 12, 2011 - 11:00pm | For mini competition : I will give a ship or three to the winner if some one wants to get a panel of judges together. |
thespiritcoyote May 12, 2011 - 11:39pm | 2doz. C, D, VS, AS, and Priv, with a couple transport frigates, and a Station, would be impressive on the table. Oh humans!! We discover a galactic community filled with multiple species of aliens, and the first thing we think about is "how can we have sex with them?". ~ anymoose, somewhere on the net... so... if you square a square it becomes a cube... if you square a cube does it become an octoid? |
w00t (not verified) May 13, 2011 - 8:47am | Oh!!! Can you do space stations? I want DarkWorld station, and some of AZ's casted. :-) My son wants the huge Sathar carrier, is that available? |
spyder May 13, 2011 - 12:23pm | The space station wont be cheap but the plan is to make it so people can buy additions like ag pods, cannons and other modules to customize the way they like. IE double do-nuts, extending center cylinders and so on. The Station will be the classic wheel for the main body, and be the most expensive mold yet. Throw ideas at me and if they are possible I will do my best to get them out there. I have photos of the explorer class WIP on the miniature project page. I will try and get the S-super carrier out in the next production run, I have a Fed troop carrier ready just need to paint it before I post it. I hope their are some rules for table top games. |
w00t (not verified) May 13, 2011 - 4:20pm | Cost for a space station or starport dose not bother me. I'll spend the money. Most ppl only need one or two I would think. Great idea about modules, consider for large ships as well. Frontier space shops are modular. |
spyder May 14, 2011 - 4:45pm | Ok....The mailman made a liar out of me, my ships can stand up to my 4 year old but not the post man. I will find a way to protect the ships when I mail them. If you have an item that is broken beyond repair let me know so I can get a new one out to you (please send photo of damaged item). Cheers. |
AZ_GAMER May 14, 2011 - 5:51pm | woot!, on the space stations are you talking about to scale with the starships or just a representational model to show the stations position on the battlefield |
spyder May 14, 2011 - 7:31pm | I am making them to scale. maybe not massive but a good size for the game, wheel will be 9 inch across with option to add to the station. |
Captain Rags May 15, 2011 - 12:53pm | What I'd really dig seeing (although it'd likely be as impractical as hell) is a cast of the Gullwind, the Moneyspider (or should I say, "Moneyspyder" ), and the Eleanor Rigby... I mean, Eleanor Moraes! In the meantime, you are what I refer to as "scarey talented", defined as a level of talent just above "awesomely talented". My SF website izz: http://ragnarr.webs.com |
AZ_GAMER May 15, 2011 - 1:18pm | Capt. Rags I think that Spyder does have a Gullwind in his privateer collection... or at least it looks at almost identical to the gullwind with its tri-nacelle frieghter design. Listed as "stinger" |
