Commander Sheppard February 15, 2011 - 12:51pm | Colonizing a planet for use as a beacon to attract other life forms. Using computers to constantly send out messages over every known wave length. |
jedion357 February 15, 2011 - 9:06pm | A colony as a beacon seems like a dangerous idea, especially in the SF setting- sathar coming to dinner. Though theoretically with all the friendly aliens that are willing to work together in the SF setting it could be a good idea. But then again with out the sathar who says that all the core races would have got along so well? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

TerlObar February 16, 2011 - 7:39am | I was reading through these threads and realized that I have a notebook on my shelf with a complete timeline/schedule for doing exactly what we are discussing here. I had a system that was explored and mapped by Obar Enterprises and they were in the process of setting up a colony in the system along the lines of the megacorp systems described in Zeb's Guide (and I laid this out long before I'd ever seen a Zeb's Guide). I had plans to build several stations, start mining operations, etc. I'll have to dig it out and look it over. Did I just let out a secret about my campaign... Ad Astra Per Ardua! Deryn_Rys February 16, 2011 - 9:29am | I think another cool idea would be if back in the sands of time a master race released several colony ships into this uncharted region that would eventually be known as the Frontier. something went wrong because two of the colony ships arrived slightly ahead of schedule giving their races a bit of a head start on the others (Vrusk and Dralasites), the humans arrived next, but were just behind enough that the Vrusk and Drals had to help them catch up, and then the Yazirians arrived. But what if the fifth race's colony ship arrived just after Sathar War two and the new race began a colony unaware of the other Frontier Races on the borders of the Frontier. what would happen when the Core four became aware of them? And what if at this time a group of explorers found traces on 4 of the Frontier worlds of strange artifacts that not only hinted that at one time they were once star craft, but that they...gasp....resembled the technology of this 5th race. or even worse perhaps the technology not only hints that all 5 races are related, but that the Sathar are as well. jedion357 February 17, 2011 - 8:40pm | True. In the article I wrote on the sathar I proposed that the UPF needed to aggressively fund a scout service to go looking for other systems that recieved the same treatment by the sathar as the Zebulon system, and in particular one that had another sathar obelisk like the one on Volturnus (SF-1) that would alert the sathar to a space presence in a system that they had wiped out- the UPF could then set a trap and destroy a sathar fleet in that system by triggering the obelisk's automated functions I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

But a great idea for a campaign. The characters explore multiple systems. The first systems are just experience builders that try the characters, are fun, but don't provide any leads. Then they start hitting systems that have clues to Sathar presence and contact with other systems. Some systems turn out to be diversionary fun but dead end adventures. Others yield more clues until the obelisk system is discovered. By this time the characters are now thick in the military espionage game. They know they are about to find a candidate system and they have to be able to find it and alert the UPF fast so that the UPF can be the trap and not the Sathar. There would be Sathar agents to silence to keep the operation secret and prevent the Sathar from learning about the plot. Then once in the obelisk system a final villain mole is revealed that must be stopped so that the Sathar can't cut off the racing UPF fleet before it gets to the ambush system. Success means a massive knight hawks battle with the characters running a desperate attack on a Sathar juggernaut using stolen plans of the juggernaut. Failure means gloryous death. -iggy |
jedion357 February 17, 2011 - 11:58pm | There is some opportunity to set things up in the obelisk system- the Red Devil pirates were operating on Volturnus for years before the level of space activity triggered the automated call from the obelisk. I like the mole idea. UPF plans would be for mines and other nastiness and an ambush. perhaps the KHs battle is 2 stage- the sathar first send in the zuraqor as a tripwire then commit their units after Space Fleet has revealed itself. TerlObar February 18, 2011 - 8:32am | I have a campaign mapped out along these lines. It was inspired by the Beyond the Frontier series but included a much larger area for the characters to explore. The only problem was I wrote it before I ever got my hands on Zeb's Guide and the region the characters were to explore was to the NW of Zebulon. i.e. the direction of the Rim. Only I didn't have the Rim and had made my own additional star systems out that direction. Maybe I should dust it off, update it and run it on-line. Ad Astra Per Ardua! w00t (not verified) February 18, 2011 - 4:06pm | The ideas presented could lead to an entire source book dedicated to these types of adventures. Sector 6 would be heavily involved but the characters may not qualify until later in their career. After all S6 is an elite group. |
