Deryn_Rys January 11, 2011 - 7:33am | For those of you who might not be aware of it, I have a second Project linked to this one called adventures in time, which I'm using to get some feedback on Alternate campaign settings using the Star Frontiers (URS) rules. The Original goal of this sub-Project was to look at the time line I've incorporated into the Star Frontiers (URS) project and see if any of the events in that timeline would spark enough interest in the community that they should be expanded opon, either as modules, or as full blown campaign settings. So far there seems to be some interest in the struggles of Earth's colonies on Mars, Jupiter and the Moon way before the Frontier was ever created, and just after the plague that sent Earth's Humans into the Gamma World hit. I've also been seriously considering several other strange spin off campaign settings based on the Star Frontiers (URS) rules which I want to mention here and if there is enough interest they may become there own projects. Invasion Earth: The Year is 2012 and 12 minutes into December 21st, Earth has its first contact with the mighty Sathar Warmachine. Can humanity survive the Sathar Invasion? Imperium: The first meeting of the Vrusk, Dralasites, and Humans didn't go off as planned, and now the three races race to expand their influence among the stars. But as the three rival races race to dominate the Frontier a new race appears calling itself Yazirians. Will this new race throw in with one of the three rival races, carve out its own empire or play all sides? Avalon 3000: Earth in the year 3000 is a train wreck. While technological advancements have made steady progress Over population, rampant polution and greed are killing the planet faster than anyone ever predicted. but just as the planet quivers in its deaththrows it unleashes its last defense against mankind. suddenly the Fey have returned and they are very very mad. Any of these ideas strike your fancy, Or do you have a few ideas of your own you'd ike to kick around? Will the Stampede January 11, 2011 - 6:49pm | As a huge fan of the Starslayer, Grimjack, and Camelot 3000 comic series, I definitely like the Avalon 3000 concept. Also, the Imperium concept is an interesting take on relations between the Core Four. " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
Deryn_Rys January 11, 2011 - 8:45pm | The Avalon 3000 concept I want to make clear would not be like Shadowrun. What I had always envisioned is a kind of post apocalyptic future where humanity has to struggle to survive against the might and magic of mythological creatures. As for the Imperium concept it would be interesting to see the core 4 as adversaries trying to carve out empires in the Frontier. I see the Dralasites as playing Humans against the Vrusk knowing that if these two races beat each other to a pulp then the Dralasites will be in a position to sweep in and claim victory over the other races. The Vrusk empire would be a fearsome warmachine with rumors of a Vrusk hive mind that makes them incredible opponents in battle. The Yazirians would probably become mercenaries selling their services to the highest bidder. Of course eventually these star empires would have to face the Sathar warmachine, and this could either unify them or destroy them. The first concept (Invasion) would be interesting because it would be a modern take on a classic sci-fi theme. kind of like Puppet Masters, meets War of the Worlds. I think the Sathar would try to infilitrate the planet and take control of the planetary leaders with the traditional invasion force being held off in case plan A fails, and the Heroes could be ordinary people who slowly discover that something strange is going on and eventually discover the Worm threat. Will the Stampede January 12, 2011 - 4:53pm | I understand what you planned with the Avalon 3K concept, which is why I like it.
Deryn_Rys February 1, 2011 - 2:55pm | Earth the Last Stand The war is almost over and the Sathar stand poised to crush the Frontier for once and for all. However in these dark times there is hope.... Several weeks before Prenglar fell Dralasite researchers discovered that Humans like all the races in the Frontier were not indiginous but had been transplanted from beyond known space, and had come from a planet in the Sol system. Hoping to find Allies who might be able to help turn the tide a desperate mission to seek aid from these so called Terrens was undertaken but when the task force arrived they found that the Humans on Sol 3 had not yet reached the technological level that they expected, and worse...the Sathar have somehow learned of their mission and may be following them. hard decisions must now be made because time is running out, and the Sathar are one step closer to conquering the universe. Deryn_Rys February 20, 2011 - 7:20pm | As I sit here I am knee deep in projects. At the moment I have completed the Core Players guide to the Universal Role Playing System, the Administrator's guide to the URS, and the Guide to animals of the natural world, and should have the Expanded rules set for the URS finished before the Star Frontier's (URS) Expanded Universe guidebook. These books are all derived from the star frontiers (URS) 4.5 rules and are 100% compatable with those rules, but are designed around a modern day setting. I Also have the Rise of the Dead campaign model using the URS rules set that is based on George A Romero's dead series which I designed for a friend, and I am about 60% done with the Shadows Campaign model, which is a game of modern day horror with characters playing Angels, Demons, Ghosts, Ghouls, Revenents, Vampires or Werewolves in a generic urban setting called the City. I'm also deep into the Zebs guide to Animals of the Frontier, A monstrous compendium for my eventual sword& sorcery titles, and the first Zeb's guide to Frontier space. The question will of course be what to do with it all. The Zebs guides will of course find their way into this project or a spin off project since they are obviously Star Frontier's related, but is there any interest in the other aspects of the URS? and if there is how should they be made available to you guys? Will the purists get upset with me if I put them in some kind of spin off project because they are not Star Frontiers related even though they were created using the Star Frontiers (URS) rules as their base, and are 100% compatable with those rules? My goal has always been to create stuff that would be fun for people to play, But there's no fun being had if they just sit in my hard drive gathering virtual dust. Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I be happy with the knowledge that at least the Star Frontiers stuff I'm working on will hopefully be seen by you guys, and maybe even played with?
