A Question about the types of Project allowed here

I was wondering about the types of Projects that we have on here. I know that they are mostly variants based on the Star Frontiers rules, or projects that hope to expand the scope of the Star frontier's game. The reason I ask is that the Star Frontiers (URS) project is the science fiction role playing arm of a project called the Universal Role Playing System (URS) which at its core is about providing a rules set (loosely based on 3rd/3.5 edition d20 rules) which with a little imagination and work can be adapted to any type of campaign.

Anyway the Star Frontiers (URS) rules are part of that whole and though it stands alone (It doesn't require the other rulebooks to play) I was wondering if it would be appropriate to start a project that focuses on the URS rules system, to offer the core rules to project members interested in creating their own campaigns based on this rule set, kind of like an SRD of sorts) or any of the other variant rules sets for the game.

This is at the moment just a query since I'm still working on version 4.5 of the Star Frontiers rules and wouldn't have the updated URS rules set ready until that's finished (in order to make the rules 100% compatable).

This site is for anything related to Star Frontiers. As long as it focuses on anything to do with either the Star Frontiers setting or the original Star Frontiers game mechanics (one or the other, not necessarily both), you can post any project you want here. You can post Star Frontiers using d20 mechanics (or any other game system), or another setting using Star Frontiers' d100 mechanics or a variation thereof (any age, any universe).

I'm just thinking about several projects that are based off of the Star Frontier's (URS) rules, but also thinking that if the core mechanics for the rules in the project are liked enough that if others might want to create a project based on those rules how to make them accessible without making them have to strip out the Star Frontiers rules they want to replace themselves.

I guess they could always just ask for a stripped version of the rules in the project itself.

Ahh. Yes, that's already considered. I can't seem to remember how, but w00t knows, I believe. I don't remember where to find the coding information. I'm pretty sure there's a button somewhere that allows you to do it, but I don't remember where. (A lot of help I am, eh?) I think it needs to be more accessible, for sure.

I was just thinking that they could just PM the request and give me an Email addie that I could send them to, since I don't want to take up too much room on the server. I'm also wondering that when version 4.5 comes out would it be possible to get rid of the older versions in an effort to save space on the server as well?

Yes. Go edit the download (), and then check the delete box near the bottom of the page, above where it says "Download File". Don't worry too much about space. Bill has taken care of the issue. If he has problems with bandwidth, he'll provide restrictions on the server.

Thank you for the quick reply.Smile

I'm always trying be be as considerate as I can to those people who have given us such a great place to hang out in, and would hate to use up valuable resources with outdated stuff, when the shiny new stuff becomes available.

You're welcome.

You're exactly right. It also spares those trying to find the correct file from having to weed through a bunch of useless old files that have nothing to do with anything current.

Others have FrontierSpace projects on here - that's not Star Frontiers.
The question never came up to my knowledge, anyone on here is a fan of SF.
Ascent, thanks for helping.

So as the Detroit TV station once said, GO 4 IT!

And don't worry about taking up space, the server has plenty (or can add more as needed as it is running on a virtual machine).  The main issue in that regard would be bandwidth as Ascent noted.  I only have a 1.5 Mbs line out and if things get real busy that can get slow (If we ever have that problem it will mean we're doing something right Smile).
